The Unboxing and Usage of CoolLights LED 600's - Or How I stopped loving Tungsten.

I purchased a dual set of Cool Lights 600's and they arrived. I heard a lot about LED's after using many Tungsten and Flourscent and HMI's - I thought hey - I used LED's everywhere else in my life from installing them in my Jeep dashboard to using it to take photos with my mobile - why not light my film work with it?

The project im on right now is called Monsters that involved really hot Monster suits that would make anyone sweat inside - Cool Lights I thought could help here. Wait - there is a knock at the door - and they are here!:

I pull them out of the box - brilliant nice soft carrying case, case full of 3 rigid gels, the light itself, and its power plug

Ahh - nice barn doors, light and stury - with bank controls and power switch and built in dimmer!

It comes with a CTO, 1/4 and 1/2 Minus Green! Nice for warming a scene up which it does do nicely or for adjusting for skin tones as it does cast a wee bit of green in my tests

Okay so now to test these lights on the set and see what happens before production starts. My mind already says - yes I can use these lights everywhere - with a battery pack adapter and gels to shift colour. More soon.

I'm going to have to get some of those. Just got my bi-color 1200 from them about a week ago. It's awesome--and way brighter than our litepanels 1x1 bi-color. With the output the 1200 has, I bet even the 600 is a good bit more powerful than the litepanels.

Awesome! Im thinking of getting the 1200 as well to complete a light mobile kit for the ultimate in indie feature work. Did you get battery options with your 1200?

Locked off shot - no color correction - No Filter -vs- CTO on one 600 full on in a 11'x17' room at 160 ISO

How are these lights working out?

I have a number of the 500 LED panels from China you see everywhere. I'd love to get even more powerful lights. They work well in a small room for interviews and for dramatic film shoots.

Have not added gels. That might improve color I suppose.
