I've seen the light... That is I've seen that the way to work with the HVX is with P2. And not to be a cheapo, but investmentswise, right now, to me - it is an expensive light.

And I woke up this morning thinking that if someone made a P2 card where you could snap in your own SD cards - I think I'd line up.

Not because it would neccesarily be cheaper (have anyone ordered 16 Gb for their Quad at the Apple Store?):), but because of upgradeability.

I know you can hook'er up to a computer, but that limits movements to an unacceptable degree in some situations.

At once you had a card like that, you could snap in bigger SD cards as they come and still protect some of your investment.

The old cards could easyily be sold or used for other purposes.

I know the trick is done with RAID 0 (which all of the sudden is ok safe -;) and fast cards, and I doubt Panny would support it, but I think this mighht be the way to go.

I've been nagging anyone and everyone who will listen to develop something like that. I even gave it a name: CheaP2.

No takers so far... :)

I had to chose between seeing what I was recording (the Panny 17") or buying something to record to (3x 8 Gb cards). I chose to see and a Sachtler, for now... -;)

(That said: The 17" - litteraly in the field on a Tractor, with a motorized AC/DC agregate is not really flexibkle either. So: Small nice clip-on batterypowered HD monitor: Here I come! And P2 store and ...)

The package wil eventually outprice the Red Head - which is OK. But I love to see that my investments are somewhat longterm...

I would certainly buy such a product. Even without using super high speed SD cards, an upgradable P2 card would be great for shooting DV or DVCPRO50 -- even the slower cards running at RAID 0 should be able to support those data streams.
 
You could also swap out the SD cards in the field as a set to increase storage time without a P2 store or once a P2 store gets filled up.
