Didn't want to post this in the Robin Hood thread as this is general information that might be interesting to all film makers on this board.

Planet 51 from Spain, animation, ran a bit less than 1 million per minute screen time.

Still trying to wrap my head around that.

I am sure. That budget is just the "Negative Cost". That is, the cost to get a cut negative to the distrbutor. The "P&A" (Prints and Advertising) costs will be many, many millions of dollars more.
 
The studio chairman Marc S. lost his job over it. It got way out of control, after tax rebates the studio is on the line for $155M (no P&A in that number). It did open to $6M overseas and should open domestic to $50M ish but yea, it's going to lose its ass, big time.
 
Somebody 'splain to me how they spent $two hundred grand on Video Tape?


I guess that would be for the prep of the EPKs and BTS doc stuff... or should we be expecting a Russell Crowe sex tape to surface?
 
one question that is bugging me. Inside the writing expenses you also include storyboard, concept art.... artists or those go under art? nearly 7m$ seems a lot of money for only writing, but, oh well, good for the writer(s)!

The top script doctors in town get 250,000 a week...definitely a racket I want to be a part of. David Mamet once wrote "the dirty secret of Hollywood is that all movies make money...It just depends on how close to the source of the money you are."
 
these numbers seem way off to me.
Production sound? half a million?
Im sorry but the typical 3 person production team isn't going to be pulling in that kinda money.
Add a playback team and still..
Seems way off.

I would think they are refering to the video assist dept,
which seems high to me.


How long was production for this movie?
 
Isn't it amazing the writer(s) made more than the producer(s). Again, the studio chairman lost his job over the spending.
