The Tribe

Interesting. Looks like you all had a good time. The night scenes were very well lit. Overall the trailer wasn't very effective. It was the same stuff over and over again. Maybe some VO or some grunts from the actors could have helped. Definitely could have been a :30 sec spot.

Was this a short film and what is the story? Other than cavemen/women dancing.

P.K. I agree it's an old trailer...just not being shy about it...It is a 24min long film...
Story....Cavemen+Bored+No women+Dangerous fluffy monkeys=trouble
until said woman appears...Ive got some production stills...for ya..

It looks like it could be pretty funny, but the trailer doesn't quite sell it.

Like PK said, I reckon it would be better if it was more snappy. Also the Blair Witch piece at the start doesn't seem to fit, neither does the music.

A few less slap-stick gags would be good to see too, although I liked the body falling from the cliff...lol.

Just being picky now, but at the end the title could come up quicker...

I'd like to see what you could do with a 30sec trailer.

jpbankesmercer,

I would have liked to have seen more tight shots of your characters. At least for me, in comedies I find stuff funnier when you can really see the reactions of the players (I think I only remember one, maybe two tight face shots), if a guy is about to fall (and what is with all the falling? maybe they found some interesting foliage in those hills?) show a closeup of his face reacting to his actions instead of just holding on a long shot.

I did a caveman art movie (which I will never post here, he he) for an art class back in in highschool that I was reminded of while seeing this. It's good scenario for comedy, that's for sure! But after seeing so many distanced shots of miscellaneous people (with those wigs and stuff especially I could only pick out maybe one or two recurring characters) walking down hills, looking around, or falling I got taken out of the trailer pretty much early on and had less and less "he he" parts. I felt it was way too long.

I didn't get much of a story their either, unless its just about this groups existence and what they do day to day. Why did you use so many different cameras? Did you really need that many for this project or was it a case of having the DVX for a couple days, then using someone else's XL1, etc? Just curious.

Your right guys, I just got it out for old times sake. I shall do quick edit...think trailer does'nt tell much too...I like the fireside lighting...3 lamps only!!
Shot in 2-days camping at the locations...It was pretty frantic...all hands on deck...
Blair-W shot from the start of the end credits...thats why it doesnt fit...
We shot the end on the XL1...DVX I used for some extra shots I needed...DSR570 main cam....I think DVCAM can look great...
J.P.
But I'm now dvx all the way!

Also remember this was my first project...I knew nothing...only know a bit more now!!

Pretty good for first project, I watched some stuff on your website that was funny too.

I am British though, so I probably relate to your humour more.

Also I just made the trailer with the original clips, not from the final edit...
When I get time I'm going to load it all on and do a better trailer...

Jean-Paul Bankes-Mercer now a repected Platinum member. :)

Congratulations on being a respected platinum member. Not that you weren't respected before 500 posts.

Looks like a good crew. Any chance you got the entire video online?

Ever notice how PK talks to us now that we're platinum?

Not bad. I'm a dead set white boy american and I thought it was funny. All the above critiques were good. The edit it self needs to be sped up.

And there isn't much structure to the whole thing. It almost seems like they were the highlights of the footage. I would have liked to see a bit more story even thought its a trailer.

Glad you had fun, which is more than I get on most of my stuff.
