The top 1000 Youtube Channels earn $23,000 per month in ad revenue

Yeah... but how... the Wife and I have talked about 'how to's'... and from the stats, while 'how to's' are 7% of the total views... it is 'Fashion + Beauty" which make up the 'lioness' share of offerings in that category...

Music, Games, Comedy... comprising about 60% of the offerings... ok, we do get some laughs when we fight in public... well... sometimes the cops get called... but Music... Games... not my bag baby...

What's the total number of channels on YouTube? The sheer number of hours per day being uploaded is going to be tough to get into the top 1000. It would be interesting to see the full revenue curve down to minimum wage to see what that looks like.

Michael

According to YouTube 72hrs of video is uploaded each minute (which equals 103,680hrs of new content per day). I think a big key to YT success is stamina. If you can upload new, entertaining content at least weekly and keep that up for a year or so then I think the odds of making it (or at least making something) will increase dramatically. Times like this I wish I was a solo artist instead of collaborative one. I mean $100k a year for an individual is very, very nice. $100k a year split between a 4 piece band means everyone is still working a day job.

Yeah, I'd like to see those stats too. I started a company with 2 other people and our goal is to make a livable wage for the 3 of us in the next two years (youtube revenue, merch sales, etc). The key is steady content and getting as many subscribers as you can.

I was annoyed there wasn't a simple list of of the top 1000. Or even better, by category. Tried searching elsewhere and couldn't find it.

It would be nice to know what the overly generic "entertainment" category contains and also what the "film and animation" category contains.

Here's a site that has some stats, like this one, "Top View in the last 7 days", http://vidstatsx.com/top-100-7d-view-gains

So a channel that has 625M (million...) views, ended up at the end of the 7 day period with 692M views... or 67M views in the week...

It appears that PSY is a korean rapper named Park Jae-sang... and one of his clips has 97M hits...

Another with 500M hits...

Park must have a lot of hacker friends who have upped the system... the current population of Korea is about 50M...

UPDATE: So, here I am, going through the local craigslist listing for 'video/film/tv/radio_jobs'... and what should greet my eyes:

LMFAO! Hackers? Sounds like you've been living under a rock. Keep up with "current events" kid and you'll be fine.

Psy was a student at the Berklee College of Music in Boston... didn't finish, but he certainly has a more world view of music, video, and entertainment.
