I'll go with "happy accident", sure. I'm not the type to take credit where it's not due!

I'm not the biggest Tarantino fan out there so I didn't really intend this to be an ultimate compendium of homages and easter eggs. The main reason being that I didn't want to have to try to emulate his dialogue style. There was one more visual reference planned that didn't work out, which I mentioned in an earlier post: the drone shot outside. Part of the idea behind that was to suggest the overhead restaurant shot following Uma Thurman from Kill Bill. After two hours of trying and not getting a usable take, I scrapped the drone and we reworked it on Steadicam. Here's one of the later takes.

Other than the operator appearing in that shot - that was a pretty decent take. :happy: (I will say, that appears to be a pretty challenging drone shot).
I think I preferred your "plan B" steadicam anyway.

Well. Many things that didn't work in that take (or any of them)--the pivot around the actor from above the entrance canopy, clean descension at the end into a closeup, and yes, not photographing the pilot (the operator was inside the restaurant with me). We never got it to feel smooth and cohesive enough, so that was that. And yes, it was a challenging shot, but the drone team was perfectly confident that it could be achieved. Harumph.
