Thought I'd start a thread since we finally finished the film and have begun the process of festival submissions. I will post updates on our adventure going forward for those interested. Thanks!

Just a quick update. So far we have submitted to:

Cinequest
Santa Barbara
Slamdance
SXSW

I know that's reaching a tad but we thought we'd start big and work our way back, if we need to. Not to be fatalist, just trying to be realistic. We're pretty close to having the final film completed, just doing some 5.1 mixing right now and a few color corrections.

Good trailer, alveraz. I wonder how westerns do in festivals.

Looks like you guys put a lot of production value in this movie.

The acting looks believable.

Shooting into the sun with video cameras is difficult, but it looks like you did your best to make it look good. Of course, film would've handled the harsh sunlight better, but then you couldn't keep the budget at $15,000 if you'd used film.

Good luck with the movie. I'm going to follow this blog and see if you can improve your distribution deal through festivals.

Yeah, that was a tough call on the sun shots, but in the desert those are tough calls that don't always go your way. Overall though I think we did well with the limited resources we had. Like I mentioned earlier I think we can get a better distro deal via the circuit but if not we have the current one on the table to turn to. Thanks again for the support.
 
Aim high with the festivals- like Dov Simens said- something like- nothing else matters. Unless you want an award "everyone gets an awards" at the smaller festivals. Dov said this.
 
We already have a distribution offer on the table but decided to try the festival circuit first for a possible stronger offer. Does that answer your question? Not sure what you are asking.
 
stronger offer -- ok. I thought maybe there were other ways nowadays, so much is changing.

also I suppose you might get a different offer from another distributor -- especially if you win some kind of award in a big festival.
