The Super Wide Vari-Angle e-mount lens

What is the appeal of investing a lot of money in an E-mount lens of this type that cannot be used on another (Nikon or Canon) camera--with respect to versatility and resale value? If you are not getting any benefits of autofocus, auto exposure, steady shot, with the E-mount connection, why have it?

Yikes... $4,700. Hopefully Tokina and Rokinon develop some e-mount lenses.

Uh-oh, didn´t see that.

And yeah, valid point Kraut.

Side note: What does 4k ready mean on a lens? Do you have to buy a firmware update to get 4k out of it, like with the FS700?

Kyle,

RE: " Hopefully Tokina and Rokinon develop some e-mount lenses."

Rokinon (or SAMYANG) has their fish eye in the E mount, but I would opt for their NIKON version with the continuously variable F stop for video.

Is focus gearing that big a deal on a lens that wide? Just go Nikon mount via novaflex if you want max versatility, or a-mount with the electronic adapter if you must have af and auto iris.

I would not be surprised if e mount is in the future for tokina as well, sony did release the specs to third party lens makers, so time will tell.

I think these PL conversions, duclos included, is for the high-end market where it is PL or nothing, and the price doesn't seem quite so shocking.

4k ready!!!! awesome!!!

good news. my canon FD primes from the 70's were designed to resolve images for 35mm FILM. so i guess that makes them 4k ready too huh....

RE: this wide angle lens. having the gears, stepless aperture, etc. is cool. but being that it's $4700, and the tokina is sharp as nails for $600, i'll pass...
