I got stuck needing a mic lasts second for a wedding tomorrow. I am using dslrs so i am using zooom h1 DVRs. I have a buddy who has a generic and nice sony wireless lav mics. I am definitely worried about wireless and and wanna just have a wired lav go to the recorder in the grooms pocket. The Sony ECM-CS10 is a directional wired lav mic. Does anyone have any experience with this mic or know if the directional lav will pick up both the bride and groom?

Thanks,
Sean

Omni's are usually used for thet sort of thing... If you have to go with a directional mike, try positioning it "center" (somehow getting groom and bride), and make sure you are getting respectable gain.

If you have any kind of post-production software, you can bring the volume of the bride's voice up to match that of the groom, if there are any problems.

Anything but omni is going to fail you. Even just on the groom it won't be very good. As soon as he turns his head just a little, he'll be off-axis and his voice will drop off a bit.

Also, there's been a recent discussion on the idea of the lav and pocket recorder as opposed to wireless. You can read that thread HERE. A good wireless system can be rented for a very reasonable day rate, by the way.
