FS7: The Sony 18-110mm cine zoom

The producers asking for specific lenses are likely those engaged in productions for channels who are charging a premium for pixels no body can see.

Or they like the look/rendition/skintones of a certain type of lens. Or they want continuity between shows/series. Or the Director specifically wants the nice organic tones of K35s or Superspeeds or the flaring characteristics of Lomo sphericals or Super Baltars or the 'Cooke Look'.

If anyone had a specific lens requirement I would hire TBH, I have more pressing needs than a single lens.

No. It's not a requirement, it's a conversation. And an important one as it has an impact on budget, working practice and the final look. I welcome that conversation.

Its never really any specific lens..for matching, flares etc.. at my level anyway.. I really think they are checking up more these days.. what they are paying for I guess..

I always tried to get a blond,or if not two Red heads down my trousers...

Sounds like it wouldn't play nice with a wireless FF too if the internal motors are constantly fighting the torque of a preston or something it is going to burn out pretty quick if the mototrs are also providing damping and pretend hard stops.

I don't think that would occur. The focus and zoom rings don't actually have motors attached to physically move them - as best as I understand electronic sensors (encoders) simply monitor the movement of those rings for movement, and perform fly by wire focus and zoom adjustments as necessary. So a Preston or other FF unit wouldn't be grinding against a different motor.

As for the hard stops on the focus ring - if it's the same as the 28-135, you have to pop it forward and backward to switch to full manual. I beleive that action engages the physical movement of the ring with the focus distances marked on it, and engages physical hard stops at the ends of that ring. I don't think motors are providing a hard stop.

With some clients there's an element of checking up, they do need to check you're not a DSLR muppet. But for most of my clients it's about the look.

You can get your coat...

haha.. Yes I dont blame them for checking.. thats what Im saying I think there might be a shift that more importance /scrutiny is being put on the lenses than before.. as camera,s and codec,s can be dealt with by all NLE now.. I had alot of problems wanting to shoot XAVC only 2 years ago.. as people didn't know what it was.. crazy to think now..

Ben its your old K35,s that wont work with a Preston..

So like the Tokina 11-16?

Makes sense.

You seem a very cross kind of chap and this isn't the first time you've said something odd along these lines.

I've about as much interest in being an DVXuser big shot as you do in losing that chip on your shoulder about people calling you out when you're talking rubbish.

Anyway, back on topic....

Clearly you can no longer determine when someone's making a light hearted quip and and instead see it as an opportunity to belittle by regurgitating the sort of BS you've read on REDUser. Forum Boy.
