"The Showdown" a short we filmed with the AF100

Looks cool, what was your shutter at?

Seriously? The effects were cool, Loved the intro title, funny dialogue( slap my gradma) lol. But as far as the footage goes, I thought it looked pretty bad. Most every one of the shots was soft. But worst of all were the skin tones and blown highlights, The people looked purple at times. I hope im not being to critical, and maybe this was just thrown together in a rush. This camera must be really difficult to dial in, because 6 out of 10 vids I see from it look not so good.

Controlling highlights in the sun is THE toughest thing to do with this camera Especially on faces. I am going to be posting my one day attempt at an outdoor sun with highlights in sun and shade later tonite for 'critique'

Just curious why you think controlling exposure is different on this camera compared to others?

Valid point. I love the camera! Maybe I will rephrase and Just say it's hard in general in high sun! Really wasn't trying to knock the camera, I couldn't be happier with it. Gonna post a little video I shot in shade and sun with the AF100 last week in an hour or so. Turned out nicely. Nothing special just a little fun.

Hey guys, thanks for the dialogue. For the record the camera handles highlights well. We ran the footage through Magic Bullet Looks and purposley blew out the highlights and created the color 'look'. Not everyones cup of tea but thats not how it came out of the camera...I hope that would be obvious.
We don't get to play around with Looks too much for our corporate clients so we decided to have a little fun with this project for us internally.

Hey.

cool. Nice fx woirk as well.

I thought the film (idea) was good enough to just do a normal CC and Grade on it within your NLE.

I did something recently (outside the normal corporate requirement) and decided that it was a really good time to have a play and hone my CC / grade skills. Ideliberately chose not to use anything lke MBs. I wanted to develop / learn the "honest" skills of CC/grade. ( ie no preset fake looks).

My suggestion. Crush it a little. Bring back the skin tones and full tone range...then give it a "feel" ( summer afternoon , spring, autumn...)

I agree with Shooter that creating a look and not using a 'preset' is both good for learning and i think it usually makes for a unique experience every time. BTW how did you do that stop effect? Saw it in 'click' a few years ago. NICE!

It is a custom look...I can understand not everyone would be into it but to each his own...as far as the shutter questions, we shot the effect scene at 1/500 and the effect is a composite of four shots.

I too am curious how she plucked the ball from the air. How was that achieved?

The wide "trick" shot is actually a composite of 4 shots, a clean background, the girl, the boy and the dad. A Lot of masking and shooting a high shutter made it work.
