Hey guys,

Here's a short that we just made. I'm looking for some feedback with regards to the editing and grading or anything that you find jarring. We can't reshoot anything but we can tweak the edit.

All opinions are welcome!

Pass is "shoemaker"

Thanks!

I like it a lot. Nice story, well done.
One thing, the grading (make-up) of the lady is a bit to much for my taste.

Voice over is very nice and so is the rest.

at 1.37 image jumps?

I usually put PacMan on one screen and the film on the other. This one I could tell I had to shut down PacMan and start the film over. Good angles, good movement.

My slight beef is with the unsettling mix of contemporary with fairy tale. I think this is largely to do with the talent. She looks very much the cute millenial, where the part seems to call for a stunning, timeless beauty. Not to slight your actress, but given the zero-acting requirements of the part and the high-dollar look of the rest of the piece, I'd have put a model here. Agree with the above comment re: unflattering makeup, as well.

Very small part of the overall picture, though. Excellent work.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I feel truly honoured you paused Pac Man to watch our film. I feel my work is done now, haha.

Fair comment on the jump cuts. 3 other people have said the same thing. I need to find a way of applying a treatment to this so that it still incorporates the entire movement yet doesn't jump. Hmm...

Regarding the make up, again I agree it's heavy in places. I wanted something more natural BUT this project had a budget of zero. I put in a £1000 for food, lights, props and fuel but that's it. It was a passion project and that meant people were working for free. So it was a little hard to say "this doesn't quite look right". The feedback on the grade has been slightly conflicting. Some people say it's over graded, others say it's not enough and needs more color.

And the unwrapping of the box is a shot we tried to lose because as you said, it's the only shot in that location and looks slightly out of place. But the edit didn't really work without it.

I'll have a rejig of the edit and send it over!

Thanks again!
