Hi guys, I hope you can check out my film THE SECRET JEDI and let me know how it plays. I shot it with, believe it or not, an old school mini-DV Sony TRV900 camera. So SD standard def, but we performed an HD upconvert on it in Final Cut. Effects using After Effects.

A bit about myself, I went to grad film school at UCLA and graduated last year. If you have any questions at all about my experiences there, you can also ask away.

Great to have found this forum and hope everyone makes great films!

Best,

Richard Hom

On the one hand I am so over lightsaber videos. On the other hand this one was brilliant. Intentional or not that's a piece of social commentary right there! The song was perfect for the material; the acting, cinematography and editing nailed the tone perfectly. I think the use of a 'real' lightsaber helped raise the bar, so sick of homemade lightsaber CG, how many times to reinvent the wheel?! I totally lost it when you kicked it up with the 'romance' phase. When you threw the phone away that was classic (and got me thinking, that saber seemed pretty responsive... erm...). Great work...too good for youtube.

Hey man, thanks very much! You made my day. I've posted this on a Star Wars forum and was roundly booed. I don't think fanboys liked being depicted this way. But I'm a fanboy too, so I know what it's like and I don't mind making fun of myself. The saber is really strangely responsive and that wasn't manipulated at all. It turns itself on and off and "blinks" when it feels like it. Weird but awesome. And yeah, it's been watched a few times on Youtube but it hasn't really taken off. It's ok, I don't think George Lucas will be distributing it anytime soon so YT will have to do. Thanks a lot, man. Rock on!

Well remember that star wars fandom is now polluted with those (dare I say younger) who actually liked I, II, III. I don't want to start a dispute about it, they had great moments but I personally feel they didn't live up to the legacy. I don't care enough to argue it further. When did fans get so sensitive. If you can't laugh at your own obsession maybe its time to see someone about it. Unlike every fan video I've ever seen this wasn't 'cool', it was an actual story. It had a begininning a middle and an end. The music choice perfectly served the material and the escalation was spot on. Humour, a love triangle (hehe), some action. It had everything. Don't be discouraged, you're a filmmaker not a youtuber. Their loss if they don't get it. Now I gotta get me one of those...

Episodes I - III are the worst. Drivel. You are right, I am a filmmaker and Youtube is the Kmart of filmmaking. I really appreciate the encouragement, man.
