The Second Vision

You have an impeccable design sense! I just watched all your vimeo videos, they are great!

Question: With the Nikon tone curve editor, can you adjust the level of the blacks? Also, can you create a curve on R, G, and B channels independently?
Just curious... Canon has such a primitive picture style maker.... it has none of that...

No Nikon Picture Control Utility does not allow RGB curve adjustments.

Thank you Matthew!!!

As Dan already answered, No. The Nikon curve editor is very simple as well and ugly designed!

Can anyone explain to me how to load an .ntc file properly onto my card?

I was assuming it was just like loading .ncp files onto a card and then onto my D90, but the camera did not see the .ntc file as a picture control profile.

Any advice?

EDIT: Do i have to convert the .ntc to .ncp? Do I need Camera Control Pro 2 for Mac to do this? If so could someone send me a converted file of the .ncp?

EDIT 2: NVM I figured it out. I used Picture Control Utility and 1. created a new curve based off one of the default profiles 2. Custom loaded Martin Lang's .ntc file to shape the new curve and 3. exported this to my Card Reader.. 4. loaded the new profile within my D90 menu

Open the picture control utility.(I couldn't find the application but you can launch it from ViewNX's file menu) Pick the Standard profile on the upper left. Then to the right choose custom settings. There'll be a curve in the lower right. To the right of that curve is the 'Load' button to import your custom curve file. Below that will be a row of buttons. Click 'new' to save your new profile, which will then appear in the upper left box. Select your new profile and click export to copy it over to an SD card.

In the D90 Menu select 'Manage Color Profile'. Then 'load/save'. Select your new color profile. Then select a C[#] to assign it to. You should be good to go!

Sweet/Swede! Really nice frames.

Just to get this straight: Did you grade this, or is the look straight out of the camera?

Actually this makes me want a D300s, but I must restrain myself. Can't stomach the lack of manual control.

real nice work. can i ask you, what is your workflow, before filming, for exposure, aperture and stuff?
and what is your work flow in post? do you any stair step removal or things?

Thanks and thanks again! Hold you horse’s chagchag! ;) D300s is not worth it ( I’ll think) And yes, it is graded! There is before and after pictures in this thread.

@ cnote, Nothing special really! I point and shoot. Ore: I load the curve, lock exposure and shoot. Edit in PP CS4 and colour grade with MB looks, export to a uncompressed avi. Stair step removal, ad grain & some sharpness in AE. Then back to PP and export to an h.264. That’s it.
