I am getting my DVX later today, and I just want to know what are the settings for the shutter speed and such to get that "Saving Private Ryan" effect. You know, the effect of a high frame rate and intense "strobe-like" battle?
..i used about a 120th shutter in 24A for my short "soldier" to give it a stutter look, it could have been a little higher i think. but i didnt want to overdo it. but anything at 120 or higher should be close to what your looking for about 160th would be pretty ideal for the SPR or gladiator look with regular motion
I shot a wedding this weekend (very sunny out) so I shot 1/500th for some outside shots of the bride walking around a huge water fountain. Some of the best shots came out of that because of the detail. I'm getting ready to post grabs in the screen grab forum in a bit.

I think it was so bad I didn't get it... ??? ;D[/quote]
When I participated in a Gettysburg re-enactment, there were 15,000 of us....a filmmakers dream. I love the smell of salt peter in the air! ;D

Nah, this was a re-enactment. The battle was scripted and performed by the participants. The cameramen just had to be there, compose their shots, and have fun!

Man your seriousness and respect for your history astound me. That is something I can surely respect all americans for. We probably tried to do one of those in Brazil at some point. That's one of the possible origins of the Carnaval... ;D

It's a great hobby. In fact, Germans are fascinated with our Civil War as well. Many Deutschen travel to the US each year to participate in our re-enactments. We were right flanked by a German company at Pickett's charge.
BTW...Carnaval...is that like Falschings? Sounds like a blast.
I got the 60th anniversary 2 disc set yesterday.... watching the special features now.
I noticed when I was watcing the film several instances where there is this odd white haze coming in from the edges of the frame. I learned now watcing the special features on disc 2 that they had lenses manufactured for them without coatings to get this effect.
Brings me to... How can I achieve this effect without destroying my camera? Can I use some other filter (maybe strip the coating off of some cheap filter?) or effect in post?
Must be nice having a budget of millions and the option of getting custom made glass

Between the regular menu and the synchro-scan, you can choose practically any shutter speed from 1/24 to 1/1000. And on the 100A, you get the option of even slower speeds.
