The Samples in 24p

Hey y'all,

I've completed a package about notable jamband, The Samples. The piece features an exclusive interview, in addition to live performance footage. The interview was filmed with 2-cameras: a Panasonic DVX100 (hand-held close-ups) and a Sony VX2000 (stationary wideshot). The DVX100 was set to 24p Normal (F5) and the Sony had the shutter speed reduced to 30 and was recording at 60i, obviously. The interview was mic'd with an Audio Technica Floor mic.

Performance footage was gathered with the same 2-cameras; however, the DVX100 was set to 60i (F1) due to very low lighting. DVX100 performance footage was captured hand-held. DVX100 performance footage was then placed into FCP4 where I incorporated a "film look" by duplicating the layers, de-interlacing upper field on 1 copy and lower field on the other, blur, 65% opactiy, blah blah blah. Sony VX2000 performance footage was capture at 60i with a shutter speed of 30 and was used on a tripod. VX2000 footage was left as-is in FCP4. Performance audio was provided by The Samples from a soundboard/aud matrix.

All in all I think the footage looks pretty good and represents what a 1-man production team is capable of.

Re: The Samples in 24p

As stated in the post, 24p footage was shot at 24p normal... or 29.97 fps (Scene File F5). Therefore, there's no issue when mixing the footage. You can mix 24p Advance and 60i is you want to, also. One can either ad a 3:2 pulldown to the 24p Adv footage or use Magic Bullet to convert the 60i to 24.
