I was shooting on Times Square two days ago and I kept changing form the NTg-3 to the 416 back and forth, just for the sake of it and to find any difference. I still think the 416 digs for the lines a tiny bit deeper than the NTg3, while the NTg 3 was easy on the boom specially for groups interviews. They both share high sensitivity for LF, but after rolling off on the Sd302, I found the 416 a little warmer, while the NTG-3 became kind of "flat"
This is not precise test, I was just playing around because I have the time, but it was a real situation comparisson. Anyway, all these differences were minimal. I think I would keep my 416 for now, just because I already own it. Tthe true is I don't like the sound of any of them in any special way, but the are great back ups for my neumann.
