The Ring Effect!! How to make it?

Wanna make fastmotion effects thats jerky and horror like, kinda like the ones in "The Ring" when the girl crawls out of the well!

Whats the best way to make it?`

Should i shoot lower frame rate or just alternate it in post?
any good examples? good setting?

I will shoot with the HVX-200 or EX1 so i will be able to over and undercrank!

What's the point of undercranking when you can drop frames afterwards?

I heard they did it in reverse. With her crawling backwards and then they reversed the take to make it look more un-natural.

I have no idea if that is true or not, I think I read it somewhere. Never ran a test with it though.

If you are shooting with a camera that has multiple frame rates, do it in camera.

shooting someone moving backwards then reversing it will indeed give nicely weird motion. As for the speed, personally I'd do it in post, unless your NLE software doesn't handle fiddling playback rate well.

it's also time ramping in post. someone here did a test a long time ago and it looked pretty cool. you speed up some parts and keep some parts normal speed. the shoot backwards and reverse in post thing sounds about right too..
