The reason for the artifacts

I was wondering what exactly was causing the artifacts that happen when there's a lot of motion when shooting with the gh1?

Is it only because of the low bit rate? Do the same artifacts happen with different avchd cameras that shoot 17mbits?

And would it be possible for pany or any of the other dslr manufactures to prevent those artifacts?

I'm very interested in the dslr's with video but I know that I'll often do a lot of fast pans and shaky shots and problems like these are a deal breaker.

I read a thread the other day (can't remember which) where folks stated that they seen a difference in the mudd between using the kit lens and a manual lens. Others mentioned that they were going to test this throery. Has anything come out of this or was it unfounded?

@ Ian-T, I read the same thing (somewhere) and though my experience is limited I'd have to say I have less problems with my primes but I'm also being careful about camera movement. I'm at the stage I only use the kit lens for wide shots as I haven't found a wide prime within my limited budget. Honestly, the more I use the camera the less I use the kit lens as there just seems to be a number of little issues I just don't have the time to figure out at the moment. Other threads mention them however. I too would like to hear other's takes on this.

From what I've read,
part of what can cause image breakdown is fast movement and lots of detail.
On a manual prime you've got a bigger aperture so your depth of field is probably shallower. All that background detail that's out of focus isn't choking up the bandwidth and causing artifacts.
