The Proxy (time-code) Problem

In purchasing the HPX300, my dream was to purchase the proxy card and offload onto a thumbnail drive the days clips. I could hand that to my client and that would be their time-code burns of the footage. Well, I've learned that only can happen in 60p footage on the HPX300. Ouch. What is everyone else doing to get time-code burns to their clients?

If you are doing sit-down interviews, these work great and the producer can take the DVD with them to watch in their computer on the plane:

Otherwise, play out of the camera into any DVD recorder after the shoot (if you don't have to reuse the same P2 cards.) I have had to just put all the clips on the timeline in the NLE and add the time code filter and burn a DVD from that when the producer lost the first DVD.

Actually the proxy only records in 60i/p, so if you are working in 24P there is the rub. You can use Imagine Products Proxy Mill to make proxies for you and because they are H.264 you can play them on an iPod.

Hope this helps,

Jan

I cooncur, ProxyMill plays so well with any quicktime based footage that you'd want to batch compress with timecode. I'm "milling" p2 footage from a shoot I did with interviews and store footage for a client with the HVX-200. I'll upload those for the client to review. So easy!
