the power zoom, is real and a pancake

Meh, just found the "gotcha" -- there's no manual focus ring on the pancake. Instead all manual focus is by a rocker, like the zoom lever. I guess I'd have to try it to see how workable it is, but I'm not too sold on the idea right off the bat. However, apparently that's one way they got the size down so small, was getting rid of the focus ring mechanism and instead just putting a near/far rocker lever on instead.

Yes, that's why those of us were saying blecch on the first page - because of Little Bobby's post about no manual focus.

Would you be "quickly reframing" while recording? i would think it'd be between shoots. Also there is going to be firmware upgrades to bodies that allow you to enable things like fl presets, so you should be able to quickly set 14, 25, 35, 42 and such without needing to fidget with the leaver to get it just right if you know what you want (between shots).

But you're right, it's too bad they slow down the zoom during recording. it's obviously for internal noise, I wonder if the hack could remove that cripple for those who record audio externally. It seems the hack is more about tweaking/removing features, rather than adding, and since there is going to be a menu option for speed of zoom, it might be possible.

No, I'm not talking about re-framing, or setting different pre-programmed focal lengths (that's ZOOMING). Manual FOCUSING is missing (and I most definitely pull focus during a shot).

So does this lens fit the GH2? I know it's already out on the market on Amazon - to me, this lens would be a HUGE advantage for me, as for photography, I'm looking for a pancake lens that can make the camera pocketable in a very large coat pocket or handbag. At the end of the day, I'm sure there will be a few shots that'll pose trouble when using this lens (dark scenes and photos where electronic focus doesn't work, knowing exactly what focal length you want, ect ect), but at the end of the day, this lens can probably make a pretty big difference when it comes to portability. I mean, if you're working on a serious photography shoot or filming a professional video, you're going to naturally have at least a tote bag with you, and you'll be putting all your lenses in there. This lens is probably for the folks who want to turn their DSLR into a quick pocket camera for the day, and for the price of DSLR's, I don't blame them.

Yeah, it's made for the GH2 and other micro 4/3 cameras.

Remember, for depth of field,, f/3.5-5.6 is equivalent to f/7-11 on a full frame camera. You're not going to get much subject isolation / blurred background with this lens. It's going to perform like an f/7 - f/11 lens on, for instance a Canon 5D Mark II. Not very exciting. :(

When you zoom the lens from 14-42mm on a fixed scene, are iris changes noticeable? Iris changes are very noticeable with lenses like the Panasonic 14-140 when zoomed manually.

I wish Panasonic would make a MFT 70-200 2.8 with OIS. This lens would be lighter than a Nikon version and great to travel/hike with. I dare to say that would be my last lens I need for my AF-100.

Forget I said that.
