The Platform - University Production Experimental Narrative

Hey Guys,

This past quarter I worked on this film:

"The Platform" is based on Chris Marker's "La Jetée" (1962).

This tells the story of a man, haunted by a childhood memory, who travels back in time from an apocalyptic future to figure out how mankind had led itself to its own extinction.

Yeah, after adapting it for a shortfilm format, I was informed of "Twelve Monkeys", and decided to hold off on watching it until after I had made this. I was shocked in the similarity between Terry Gilliam's and my own ideas. Felt pretty cool.

Shot on a Canon XH-A1 with a SGPro Rev3 35mm adapter.

It was shot on 2 days over 2 weeks and edited for my final project for this quarter's production class.

Let me know what you guys think, technically and otherwise.

Best,
Jason

I would suggest speeding up the tempo of your narration. Talk normally. Use your regular speaking voice. As it is, the narrator sounds affected and monotone

Also, shorten the first music sequence. Time wise, it's way out of proportion for a 10 minute film. Cut it in half, at least.

Interesting concept, though. I like time travel themes

Yeah, overall I agree it could be tightened. I also wanted to use this other guy to narrate cause he had an awesome voice, but couldn't get ahold of him, so I had to do it (much to my dismay... I hate my voice).

you have a good voice, just need to speak more naturally. Don't look at the mic when you are recording. look straight ahead. keep the mic above and away from your line of sight. This will help you relax and speak more naturally. Try it, it works

good luck
