The unwaivering allegiance to a piece of hardware has always seemed so silly to me. In the end, its the applications that you run that should determine what hardware you choose, not the other way around.

PS I am a pretentious asshole who uses SGIs and PCs so I am not exactly sure where I fit in; but then again I never did really fit in anywhere!

Hell, I'll shoot on whatever camera does the best job for the project and budget (I have used Moviecam, Arri, F900, DVX, etc). In the case of the DVX, it clearly has demonstrable, quantifiable and reproducible advantages over other camera's in and around its price point.

Trying to make the argument that a MAC is or isn't "better" than a PC... seems that a lot of people have drawn a line and refuse to even consider that a term like "better" is much more subjective than objective. An argument for a preference for an application might be easier to make, but for the platform? Still seems kinda like religion to me.

PS I REALLY like this community; if nothing, its always an interesting read!

I say we all pitch in a few bucks and buy Hudson a Mac Mini... that's the only way he'll ever give it a chance. Let's see... 5 bucks a piece... we'd only need about 80 of us and he'd have one. Shoot he can at least try it. :beer:
 
All this mac talk makes me want to buy a new system...

my dual 1Ghz G4 tower is still going strong.. the old girl is approaching 4 years old now... she is starting to get some problems.. like arthritis... one USB not working like it used to... it happens..

What would make me wet myself would be a Dual 2.8Ghz Dual Core G5.... delicious.

just as an aside.. I have been a mac user since I was born.. convenient I say :beer:

Er... I really hate macs and would never use one. I also think the HVX will be rubbish and you will never see me using one!

I also feel the same about fast cars and large country houses :beer:

Why does this sound familiar? Hmmm... ah yes: I think somehow that video would turn out rather like that guy who was asking for donations for a G5, and in exchange he would videotape himself blowing up his old G4. The poor Mac Mini in Hudson's hands... we might have to chip in an extra $20 for M-80 firecrackers or something.

Anyway, whatever he does with it, the entertainment value alone should be worth $5. I'm in!
 
That's true. If Hudson doesn't pay for it, he's got no investment in it. I'd kick in a fiver to watch Hudson detonate a brand new Mac!

Or, more accurately, the reactions TO that detonation . . . :beer:
