. . . Just remember the CTRL and APPLE keys do the same thing.
Yeah, but would it kill Apple to make a real forward-delete key (NOT a backspace) on their keyboards? That's been bugging me since the first Macs in 1984. Or do Macs come with one now?

The come with one now. Except for the laptops (of course you can hit Fn-Delete for forward deletion).

Yep, right under the "help" key to the left of the "end" key... above the arrow keys.

i do care about render times. i've had plenty of instances where i had to get my project completed quickly in order to hand it in on time or what not. 2 minutes does make a difference for me. plus, with more ram, you CAN render faster. it is proven. sure it may not run FCP faster, meaning cutting clips and what not, but it does render video effects faster and more smooth.

motion and shake are two great examples of programs that won't render particles smoothly unless you have a lot of RAM. i have proof:

i'll copy my link to the trailer i made for the Austin Film Festival.

http://media.putfile.com/Austin-Cityadotmovadottmp15

if you look at the snow particles, and focus on one flake, then you will see it is jerky as hell. this is because we rendered that whole project on a G4 dual 1.25ghz with 512mb of RAM. the video effects turned out allright, but i know for a fact that if we had faster processing speed and more RAM, then it would have looked better.

Sorry Justin, but how much ram you have doesn't affect what is rendered to your output file. How you create your project does.

ps: motion and shake both render whatever you tell them to. Ram will only speed things up a bit and give you more room to breathe by reducing the memory bottleneck. Shoot, you can render 4k film frames in after effects on a 300mhz mac, it just takes forever. I did it years ago just as a test. In your case, it looks like you have some funky settings goin on in your particle system, or you messed up with a 3:2 pulldown.

i didn't do the effects at all. that was my friend.

i believe that the faster something renders, the cleaner it will be.

I'll have to agree with Kai on this. More RAM doesn't equal better quality output. I guess that would be like saying that a machine with 256 megs of RAM makes mp3's that sound crappier compared to a machine that has 1gig of RAM. The result will be the same. The speed in which it is completed will be faster usually.

I don't know much about MOTION though, so you may have some settings that need tweaking. You might want to check and make sure you are running at least the minimum requirements:

*In my best Frodo voice* And I concur with Terry_Lasater ... though I do not know the way.

(Sorry, it's 3:00 AM here and I found that funny. :))

Chris

I too concur ... :)

Also, does anyone else get pissed of with the stupid one button mac mice!?!?!

I just have to go straight out and buy a nice 5 button optical with a ergonomic design... and that stupi mighty mouse thing! FFS guys, just give in and make multiple buttons, NOT something where you have to squeeze the sides in order to get right click!!!!! ARGH!!! MORE BUTTONS = MORE EFFICIENT!!!!!!

Rant over.

two things I don't like is the keyboard and mouse from apple

i have a logitech duo and love it. extra $100 but very well worth it.

(even bigger Mac hater than, say, Hudson or Pookie...

Whoa whoa whoa

I don't hate MAC at all. It's the prententious assholes that use them that I don't like.

(DISCLAIMER: If you are on these prententious assholes then you would know it; so I'm not saying just cause you use a MAC you are one.)

I have always said, the main reason I use a PC is for business purposes. Period. Always have. I can care less. If I can surf the web, play video games and make movies I'm happy. I havent had a $3000.00 pop of disposable income to run out and buy a MAC and really have no interest in re-learning a whole OS nor NLE. Hopefuly by that time someone else will do the actual editing for me.

I think arguing which one is better is comical; it's like FORD/CHEVY and anyone who proclaimes that one is better than the other is probally a prententious asshole.

I along with an undisclosed genius friend were the one's who implanted the chip into Jarred to have him do the cross-over...

it was great to see the big man tremble with the features of OSX....
