The Perfect Set

Be nice horrorshockpictures...

Here's some help. At the top of each HVX forum page you will see the word "search"... click on that word. A screen will cearch which allows you to search using several key words. Let's say you are looking for tripod for the HVX. Under advanced search type in "HVX" and "tripod" that hit the "search now" button. You will see several posts listed addressing you request. You can search again 40 seconds after you hit "search now." You can adjust this for each topic you are interested in... whether it's wireless microphones, tripods, M2 adaptors, P2 stores, etc.

I hope this helps.
Jim

 I was not trying to sound mean, i'm sorry. Thanks for the help man :)

I dont want to sound mean or presumptuous but ...

Search is a basic function on the internet - anyone with any level of technical proficiency would understand how to use search. Why do I bring this up? Horror - you are talking about purchasing over 10,000 worth of technical gear. You need a level of technical prowness to use this gear - not just to shoot images but to be able to keep up with a digital workflow. It is a bumpy ride and rarely works like the "instructions" say. Do you have a very technical person you are working with? Do you at least have someone very technical to help you pick out the gear, test it, and then create a useable workflow?

If you dont, I would be afraid you are putting money and energy into the wrong area first

Case in point - the M2, while a great device, is very difficult to configure and use - and you need to understand the tradeoffs with such a device. There are pros and cons, not just cons. Another case in point. Why did you choose an 8 gig card - not that it is a wrong choice - but there are reasons why a 4 gig can be the better choice depending on your workflow - the P2 store is good for some reasons but in many peoples opinion - not the best device for a feature.

Make sure you learn everything you need to know before you jump in head first. This is just my 2 cents

Hello,

:)
Its not my first time making movies, this is my first "official" movie, all the other ones I have made where fan based. Anyhow yes I do have tons of help. The reason whi I choosed the 8GB is because it has more storage, therefore I can film more HD content . I am looking for a good adapter has gives me the best depth of field look thanks.

And no, you are not a meany.:thumbup:

I have the HVX+M2 and love it. It takes some time and dedication to set it up and to learn to use it, but the results are phenomenal. You will need at least a 50mm Nikon lens with the lowest f-stop (fastest lens) you can find. I'm using an f/1.4 lens and I have to double the light to get reasonable exposure control indoors. Others recommend a couple of other lenses -- a wide and a tele lens. I have a 35mm-70mm zoom lens. Generally, the faster the lens the more money. Anything above about f2.8 is pretty much useless on planets with only one sun.

I would suggest getting the HVX and working with it -- testing it -- before you buy the whole package you are describing. I think you will find that workflow with the HVX is very different from DV tape and probably more like working with film. There are many ways to use the HVX, and you need to know exactly how you are going to use it before the value of the various additional pieces makes sense in the context of your use. So, for example, someone may say that in the abstract a certain device is "good", but that's only in the context of their use of it. Also, there is a pretty steep learning curve not only with the HVX but with many of the peripherals. Its not so easy as plug-them-in and use them. Most of these additional devices take time to learn and to master in order to get the results you will find pleasing.

So I would suggest getting some bits and pieces, starting to use them, and then building out as you understand the limits and what it will cost to overcome those limits. That will give you the time to learn, to try, and to adjust and evolve your thinking about what to buy based on your own experience.

Hope that helps.

Hi I am very new to this community in fact this will be my first post. I was told you guys are great at helping other fellow filmmakers. I recently bought two HVX200 cameras for my upcoming first feature horror film. I spent 3 years of my life saving up to make y first dream film. I have managed to save $72,000 in Canadian funds. I am very new to the internet but I was told you would all be the best to help me out to find online stores. I need to find matte box, mic, mic windscreen, cables, crane, dolly, boom pole, 17” onboard HD monitor, tripod, Varizoom VZ-Rock PZFI, Varizoom VZ-PZFI-Focus Wheel, long lasting batteries, filters, rain cover, P2 8GB card, FireStore FS-100. I bought the M2 lens adaptor, but I am having tons of trouble finding a good lens. Also I need to find field mixers, I need editing software ofr a PC. I currently do not own a MAC. As far as lighting I found a great place on ebay and I got a great deal. PLz plz plz help me find these things, thank you a lot for you're help.

Hi 5ive, well if you have a package for me that looks like this:

zacuto_redrock0247.jpg

I been doign tons of research, I know that if you go with there rent to buy program, the cam cost a little bit over $30,000. But if you buy all the parts from diffrent places, its half of the cost that Zacuto offers. Let me know. if you have a package like this, and the price. (by the way I would need everyting you see in that package, exept the tripod and cam, I have those already purchased)

thanks

horrorshockpictures,

I miss spoke earlier today. My Package is not as extensive as the one shown in the picture. I meant if I could offer you some help with building your package by suggesting where you might be able to purchase the pieces for your package. Or if you need an extra shooter Id be happy to help.

For a mini 35 adaptor I use a P+S Technik when shooting commercials and music videos. In fact I have done work for a local production house where they did not want a 35mm adaptor used. It was an SFX shoot involving motion control. And we are working on a second commercial.

I have also been involved with multi HVX camera shoots and the producer is always looking for another shooter with a camera. By the way the P2 store in my opinion is a much better solution for shooting Dramatic projects with. I have found in the past it has saved the day.

Kind regards

5ive
