The Perfect PTool Settings

Hi Peeps,

So it seems we are all looking for the "Perfect Settings" to apply to our hacked GH1 cameras. I would suggest that we let go of that need and recognize that there currently is no "perfect settings". :)

Let me explain.

First, I want to express gratitude for Vitaliy Kiselev. He has opened up a world to us GH1 users that is truly amazing. If I wasn't stuck in poverty consciousness I would be donating to his cause. For those of you who have financial abundance, I urge you to show your appreciation by donating to him.

Ok, now for the explanation. ;)

Each one of us are unique. We all shoot different types of footage, in different types of locations. There is no "magic" setting that will cover it all. At least not yet. However, I do believe there is a perfect setting for each situation. For example, I have found that super high bitrate MJPEG is amazing for taking high detail footage in somewhat static low light situations. That takes into consideration that I like using 30fps and am currently not attached to 1080p.

I think to truly utilize the power of a hacked GH1, you would need to carry around a number of small SD cards, each with a different firmware configuration which is customized for certain situations. As you change situations, you change the firmware. Although this is ideal in my opinion, it is also a serious pain in the ass. :)

So I encourage us to start thinking a little differently. Lets share our "perfect" settings based on the type of footage it works best for. Some people are already doing this which is great! Perhaps people can reply to this post with your favorite settings for a specific situation (and include as much detail as possible).

For my current shooting style I am finding that leaving AVCHD unhacked and changing MJPEG to super high bitrate is working really well. Stability is really important to me and I have had issues with the hacked AVCHD footage. If someone could point me to the most stable AVCHD settings (for 1080p and 720p and maintaining the 60fps for 720p), that would be great. At this point I would prefer true stability over high bitrate, but a higher bitrate than the factory default would also be nice.

Thank you to all the wise and knowledgeable people in this forum. I have been learning so much here and I am very grateful.
