any clips I do post now will have to be 'ripped and re-rendered' from the DVD's I have laying around; my hard drives are out and waiting for data recovery. (got new drives for current projects)
Again!? You're joking right? Your website says your HDD's failed on ..Or The Egg, too. Weird.

Grover - Don't shoot action with 30p. It'll look like ****. Shoot with 24p, it'll look exactly like it looks when Jackie Chan and Stephan Chow film a Kung-fu scene. Actually they usually speed it up just a hair to 22/frames a sec. Check your test footage and you'll see that the motion blur in at 24p is the same as it is on film. Trust me, my next flick has a 10 minute fight scene. :)

Where did you hear that film festivals have a problem with footage? I've never heard of that. My flick had footage everywhere and we just got in the FANTASIA film festival. It's the biggest genre film festival in the world. Hell, almost all the fests these days have links to footage on their website.

Good luck with the film.

Probally doesn't matter at this time what he believes since this forum is dedicated to filmmaking and this thread for grabs and footage; discussing religious beliefs or baiting someone into a religious discussion is not gonna happen here.

So don't do it please.

Relax there Johny Boy! It's all good to explore other work and the directional view of the director with out shallow criticism.

Specially if it's a film, so speak for yourself. Thanks

Peace out :engel017:

Ha. This looks like a hoot. I'm curious to see this thing, because it seems to have people taking it personally.

I'd like to see a clip. I don't care that it's confrontational or that it alienates people, just gimme some footage dammit!

Sunday School is "brainwashing"?

Well...

If you say so...

Hey Bro,

No worries I'm finishing up a Documentary about a small church starting up in Boston and how it's effecting (not infecting) the community in a positive way.

It's pretty intense because of it's location. Since it's located next to the Dana Farber cancer institute and Boston’s Children’s hospital and near the Mass Mental institution. Also it's next to a poor community that many want to forget exist. So you can image what wide issues that they minister too. I'll be posting a short clip soon.

Hey gota have a balance right?

I'm not speaking for you but more to you; I'm saying "Save the religious debate" for someplace else.

And Coltrain just had to make a comment about 'Sunday School.'

Deleted that one.

Heres' the deal (and let me know if you can't play ball)

I asked one time not to start in with debating or baiting religious beliefs. We've seen it a hundred times; what starts out as an innocent conversation turns into a firestorm of personal testaments and judgement.

I asked you once already; you did it anyway and then used the excuse "I wasn't the first to mention it.". Which sounds like my 5 year old blaming his best friend Ryan "Well Ryan started it...."

Unfortunately we cannot exist peacefully on certain subject matters; politics and religion seemingly being the one's that create the biggest maelstrom. So, it's not going to take place in this forum.

If you want to discuss the viewpoints of the filmmaker (as Shilo Arts pointed out) then that is fine; but everyone watch the super fine line there. It's like lighting a cigarette in a fireworks factory.

The problem usually lies within a persons rational at not being able to let people live and foster their own belief system. If they don't see the 'almighty' under the same lenses then it turns into a personal affront and a crusade ensues.

Again, let me know if you can dig it or not.

Correct!

However, if your going to play a fair ball game then you shouldn't form an objective view and get all hostile towards a simple question about the directors point of view, especially since this is a forum where people are encouraged to input their feedback. Now I understand that this is not a religious forum and that the focus should consist on DVX filmmaking. Therefore, I believe that posts such as these that might be offensive to others, such as Coltrain, should be treated the same and be deleted as well. Otherwise this is legally called discrimination my friend.

Otherwise in the case such as this post, other footage on the church, whether possitive or negative must then be tolerated and viewed subjectively.

don't think that JH was at all hostile. seemed to me all he did was trying to make sure things did not get off track. discrimnation is a strong word to be throwing around.

well actually he did mention that he deleted a post from Coltrain. Look bottom line is that these forums should be allowed. If Grover who it seems doesn't agree with the christian perspective indirectly begins to market it, then it's only fair that Coltrain make a feedack to the sunday school view. Nevertheless, I do agree with John in that they should both talk it over amongs themselves via email, but just cause he maybe a christain shouldn't allow for a 10K poster to just play bully and delete the post, if he's not going to consider Grover's indirect marketing. <<-- That's where discrimination lies

Shilo Arts

I have ZERO hositility.

As stated earlier in the thread; I was making a pre-emptive announcement based on experience.

I also stated 'feel free to discuss the directors point of view' but to use caution during the discussion.

I am glad you understand this is not a religious forum.

If you are referring to the 'Footage' submitted and the title of the thread; this would go back to "Feel free to discuss the viewpoints of the director".

You can call it whatever you want but I think your making this into something it doesn't need to be. That is fine; I have been known to question and challenge.

What it is:

Feel free to submit work based in a religious subject matter. Feel free to discuss the merits of the film and production and even the view points of the filmmaker.

Do not engage in worthless banter that is based in ones personal beliefs whereas it clouds the discussion and objectivity of the discussion. This always leads to hostility and leaves a bad tatse in everyones mouth and ultimately spills into other threads.

See, the problem is; your already turning this into something that it never needed to be taken too. Coltrain already made a comment that he probally shouldnt have even after the request was made. Now, we have to babysit this thread. This is why forums need moderation.

You can rationalize and call it what you will; but it is what it is. And saying that it is "Legally Discrimination" is moot. Call it "Techically" if you must. And I'm not here to protect Coltrains beliefs anymore than I am to support the filmmakers. I am here to make sure a bunch of Fanatics don't start throwing beer bottles and start burning the place down.

Mister Hudson,

I have a lot of repect for you sir couldn't agree with you more about moderation of post. This is why I believe that it is critical to be sesitive to both views, and that in order to be a good moderator you have to be somewhat subjective. However you can not assume that it will not turn into a bottle throwing fanzy if some one is indirctely marketing his point of view. If this post (as it apparently has) causes such an stir then the only wise decision would be then to delete it and remind the original poster the purpose of posting footage, which is to get technical feedback on his/her porduction. Now in this case the Poster is looking for just that. I would suggest that you monitor him just as well

Thank you for all you hard work John

Another thing Shilo

I'm not sure I'm digging the implication here. I am not bullying a Christian. I have strong spiritual beliefs that undoubetly would be considered based in Christianity.

You are labeling this (or me) as:

Treatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit; partiality or prejudice

I assure you; that is not me nor my intentions and if I am offending anyone or if anyone is feeling attacked I then say sorry and it is not my intention. Now I feel I am Discriminating in:

The ability or power to see or make fine distinctions; discernment.

  1. The act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good judgment.
  2. Keenness of insight and judgment.
Let's not get confused here, K?

John,

And being discening is a hard job at a post like this. Your words and comment did seem one sided at first, neverthelss, now that you made your intentions clear I do apologize for jumping the gun.

Thank you signing off
