The Panasonic P2 Promo Shaft... A Vent...

So early-2007 buyers of an HVX received a useful 8GB P2 media card. Recent buyers find an even more useful 16GB P2 card in their box.

Are any other mid-2007 buyers feeling a little shafted that instead of much needed and very useful P2 media, we found a useless battery? Like most HVX owners, I purchased Barry's book the same hour I ordered the camera, so another copy 12 weeks later was irrelevant. Also like most HVX owners, my camera is mounted to a baseplate, so the boot-mount battery is little more than an emergency backup.

Sure, one can say a freebie is a freebie - but come on, Panasonic, anyone who knows a little something about CRM or took a class on marketing can smell the stink on this one...

Okay, that's the end of my vent... I feel a little better now. Unfortunately I'm still out $1,000 for P2 that other buyers didn't have to spend.

Ahhh, this has been hashed and whined and vented out before. Imagine if you were one of the early HVX buyers. We payed, many months in advance (five months for me), got our cameras much later than people who were able to order them immediately once they started shipping, and didn't get free P2 cards... in many cases, after waiting months for the cameras, finally got them DAYS before the free P2 promotions began. I paid for an HVX in November 2005, got the cam in April 2006. Now I got beeps with the 16GB cards, far out of my warranty period. You aint got it so bad.

And neither do I. I remain happy with my HVX.

Bought my first one when Rush was still at EVS . . . got nothing (except the opportunity to have the most revolutionary camera available at the time), which was fine by me--got what I wanted at a price I was willing to pay.

Got my book for attending the NYC Boot Camp.

Bought my second one from Julian at AVS late this summer--have never applied for the battery, probably won't . . . what would I do with it?
Do I wish I could exchange my "rebate" for a 16gig card? You bet, but that wasn't the deal when I bought (and nobody broke my arm to buy when I did).

I just bought mine (14 of December) from a Montreal Panasonic dealer. I was (and still am) very very pissed at Panasonic Canada for not giving the same deal as in the US.

I had to buy the HVX200 for the documentary I am currently shooting in Spain. I waited and waited till the last minute (the day before I left Montreal) before I bought the Camera, hoping that Pana Canada would be LOGICAL and include a 16gig P2 card in the boxes. But nothing, nada and finally, before my plane left without me, I had to buy the 16gig P2.

My official Montreal Dealer send them e-mails hoping also for a positive answer: he as he was also a bit pissed considering that the US border is 30 minutes away and that for a 1000$ rebate he WILL lose customers.

I don't know if things have changed since December 20th, but I doubt it. Panasonic Canada should realize that the Market is North-America. I really feel I got shafted through this deal, even if my Montreal dealer got me the very best price I have seen on the Camera.

Anyway here is my two canadian cents,

still pissed but drinking very good coffee,

Later,

-Luc

Send me your book I never got one since Canada was excluded from free anything. No free Book, no free battery, and no free P2 card of any size. I could only afford 2 4gig cards. I got what I paid for. I haven't posted to complain. (because I have no complaints)

Promotions come and go. Technology is always changing too. It's a part of life. Deal with it.

I remember when I got my DVX100a I got a free battery, Barry's book, Magic Bullet, and $300. I was thrilled! Then a month later they upped the rebate to $500. Sure I was pissed but I got over it.

I bought my first HVX in 2006. There was nothing offered a the time. Just bought my second HVX in November. I still haven't received my $700 worth of everything except a P2 card which, I agree, would be more useful.
And early on with only 4 and 8 gig cards it seemed foolish to spend all that money for 4 minutes of video or even 8.

So, with this HVX, I invested in the newest FS-100.

Early adopters of the camera were only offered buy the camera now and get in a couple of months. Thanks for ordering p2 cards now too. You will get them in couple more months. Been there, done that, and absolutely love the camera. Just wished I would have pre-ordered earlier in 05 so i would have gotten quicker.

hmmm.. in europe you get diddly-squat. prices tend to be about 50-100% more. Sure the dollar is low but anything ordered from the US there's a 20% or more tax + shipping. only yesterday i came back bruised from the customs

true, and i don't know why prices are higher here. you can see lots of prices in the states that are 1000$ and in europe the sme thing costs 1000€ which converted to dollars is about 1440$. this wil make people buy from USA instead from europe. can an economist explain this to me, because it doesn't make much sense for me

Australia is VERY expensive too. It's a real ***** having to buy everything from overseas and trying to get around customs where possible. I'm chasing a 16Gb p2 card and its US $260 difference AFTER the dollar conversion here.

You got a camera and an 8 gig P2 card, what are you complaining about? i bought the camera in may of '06 and you know what I got? The HVX book. That's it. My friend bought his camera a few months later, got the camera, the HVX book, magic bullitt, colorista and an anton bauer battery package. Now people get 16 GB P2. That's technology for you.

When I bought my Powerbook in '05, the day I opened the package and started it up, I checked the apple site to find out that they had just announced the changeover to Intel. My powerbookw as already obsolete. A couple of months ago I bought a Mac Pro. I got it home, started it up, and found out that Apple is switching to a new, super-duper quick chip this month along with new, super-quick video cards. I don't complain, because that's technology.

Your camera was worth that to you when you bought it. No use complaining about how technology progresses, you're just pissing in the wind.

Don't you guys get free health care?

Jesus christ guys - get over it. What products ARE the same price everywhere in the world?

Different countries have to deal with different things, different taxes different overheads and generally different costs. They also have a different market, and may deal with very different numbers than in the US.

And seriously, you can be annoyed with yourself for buying when there was only a free battery, but to whinge about a company not giving you free stuff for no reason is just stupid. You paid for a camera, anything else is a bonus.

I'm sorry, but this just seems like such a stupid thing to be spending any time or energy complaining about.
