The "OTHER CAMERAS" forum

Many times I've wanted to post gushing about how great this site is, so now seems like a perfect opportunity. While I'm not a huge poster, this site has been invaluable as a learning tool while also maintaining a fun atmosphere. Every time I look at footage I've shot or a project I've finished and am happy with the results, I think to myself "thank god for dvxuser - couldn't have done this without that site." When I look at my footage and it sucks I hop on this site, do some lurking and almost always find out what I did wrong and how to improve next time. This place is like having a film school faculty literally at your fingertips.

I don't think it's an overstatement to say the efforts of Barry, Jarred, and all the mods (as well as many of the most active and experienced users) are a genuine asset to the independent filmmaking community as a whole.

Ok, my sapfest is over.

I'm glad everything is out in the open now. The "mine-is-better" posting (which I might plead for misdemeanor charges on) should now come to a peaceful halt. This is a great site and even if the "other cameras" are considered off-topic that's fine with me. I do enjoy the interchange with everyone here and would like to see the combative tone of the "camera debates" just go away, and foster a good understanding of valuing our diversity of opinion (so PC to say!!) and not devolving into "your an idiot if you use that camera" kind of comments.

I promise not to jump all over the next guy that bashes HDV just for the sake of it...
I swear. ;-)

Let's all sing KUMBAYA!!

Yeah, i have been around since near the beginning and watched the change also. I dont even go into the HVX section or the other camera sections because of all the trash talking. I remember when I felt like I could ask anything I wanted and knew that I would get a straight answer within a few hours. Now its like you have to wade through all the BS to get to something that "might" be usefull in some posts.
Sometimes I start to post suggestions on some questions but then delete them because of the possible onslaught of "my way is better and yours sucks" replies. Hail and bring forth the family again.

By the way, nice picture of you Barry in the new DV mag. Now I see what you were saying a while ago in your PMs.

This site is the BEST and MOST informative DV site on the INTERNET! I own both Panasonic and Canon camera's and was shocked that the other camera's section was gone, but I'm glad it is back and hopefully here to stay!

DVXuser was and still is a great site!
Even tough it doesn´t have the "real name" rule, like eg dvinfo, it feels more like family.
Thanks for this, Jarred.

I just wanted to ad, that maybe this "flaming" some grew tired of, just corresponds with the advent of so many other cameras or with the progression to HD.
The DVX simply used to be THE dv camera - nothing comparable on the market!
About what should we have argued?
It was all about "look what I did with the DVX!!!"
But this situation has changed dramatically: XL2, PD170, FX1, GR-HD1, HD100, DVX100B, HVX, XLH1 - this diversity will naturally bring up different point of views. NOT discussing all the options out there ain´t my style.
DVXuser no longer is a melting pot, but surely will stay my first choice on panasonic related information.
Keep up the good work.

And we support the nascent dvxuser.com for Canon users, started by longtime DVXUser members who have chosen a different platform. We hope they enjoy the same sense of community that DVXUser does, has, and will again.

Could someone post a link, please?

I've noticed that there were more threads with people arguing about stupid crap, so that's why I've avoided the "Other Cameras" and HVX areas.

I've never understood the Tech Wars (not the Shatner books), so I'd be glad to see us return to using the technology we have to make better movies. That's all it was ever about for me in the first place.

I'm really happy that these changes have been made and addressed with this thread.

I love this site and started to feel like what I loved about it has quickly been washed out.

Looks like things will go back to normal now, thank god.

I have been coming here almost every day for well over two years.

It is definitely a home away from home.

A big thanks to all the mods for making sure it stays "homey"!

Chris

I'm really impressed (and always have been) with how much care you guys (mods) give this site. Barry Green posts about serious discussion between the mods and I picture a small smoke-filled room with everyone sitting around a table and Jarred closing the door, locking it dramatically and saying "No one gets out of here until we do what's best for the communiity."

I know that if I were running the show I'd have a tendency to set things up and let the chips fall where they may, but the fact that you guys not only consider the hard choices, but actually make them, for the good of the community means a lot to me.

Thanks for all that you mods do, and for providing a good place for me to grow as a filmmaker.

Now, let us pray. :)

Chris

I haven't been here as long as others have but I like to think that I'm a part of this family and that i'm able to contribute in a positive way to the forum. I know that i've recieved a lot of help from everyone here. All I can say is that I love this place now so I can't even imagine what it used to be or hopefully where it will be going back to. I guess what i'm trying to say is Bring it On

briceman, did you really have to quote Barry's whole post?

Very well spoke Barry, I look forward to shaking your hand next week.

As members of this community we must realize that the moderators have been trusted with making the decisions that make this a better place. If you can't trust in them, than you can't trust in the fundamentals of this place.

Heh heh... I thought the same. Imagine if everyone in this thread that agreed also quoted Barry's entire post. :cheesy: :)

I thought we had educated the young buck back when he had his own thread. :)

I too appreciate this place and its moderators!! I had no intention of getting one of those stupid DVX cameras. But now am thankful I did, and its due to this site. I appreciate you guys keeping discussion range down to improving film making. And not all the other garbage that can be spread.

My only concern is Terry. I am appalled at how he pokes fun at me. I used to watch the Shazam/Isis hour as a kid!! :(

So much for Barry's imaginary world where people can post anything and not have people jump down their throats.

Not with me and Terry in town! :costumed-smiley-047

EDIT: SilverWolf too.

Sorry... but I was quite impressed by what he said, and felt it should be reiterated... I don't know.
