the omen

so i scored some passes to a sneak preview of the omen tonight. let me first say that i am not a big fan of remakes as they usually suck. however, this one scared the pants off of me. i haven't seen the original in years but from what i remember this one kept pretty true to form. i know they left out some stuff and some of the storyline seemed rushed. i think this is due to trying to fit the story into a shorter run time that fits today's trends. i think i remember the old one being pretty long. music was great. acting was good. that kid is just plain creepy. it's worth seeing for sure....

Yours is the first positive review i've seen for this flick.

Most reviews seem to be tearing this one a new 'hole.

I haven't read reviews this hysterical since the last Uwe Boll film.

Every critic seems to be faulting it for being too close to the original, more of a remake than a reimagining. It doesn't sound like it's bad, only that its been done before.

Yeah, that's probably a turn off. Normally, you can just 'feel' the hype surrounding a movie (Jurassic Park, Lord Of The Rings,Davinci Code, X-Men 3, etc......) but it doesn't seem like anyone 'cares' about it............

The first one scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. So did "The Shining". Strange they would choose to remake something that effective. I see it as a rental.

The remake was really just the original with better kill scenes and different actors.
It had the same weaknesses (slow at times) and strengths as the original script.

I hated how everytime they want to accentuate that Damien is the devil's son they have him make a weird "yes, I'm evil" face. He's a creepy looking kid to begin with. It became a little comical after the second time.

So-so movie. I feel exactly the same way about this and the original-mediocore. Why do it exactly the same? * Sigh *

Anyone remember that South Park episode with "Damien"? I really liked the homage "music"when he did the possessed kid look- hilarious stuff...

Although I do have to say, which I forgot to mention before, there are two pretty good "boo!" type scares in the Omen. I knew they were coming and I still jumped. That hasn't happened in awhile. I just wish they had actually done some work on the script instead of just re-using the original and adding the year 2000 to it.

Not a horrible movie, but won't convert anyone new to the Omen series. If you weren't into it before, you still won't be more than likely. It was funny to see all the youngens in the audience who were clearly clueless react to the movie. That was worth the price of admission alone.

I am going to see the movie soon as well, Critiques from a Radio station said it was plain old bad as a remake. But I still would be up to see it.

I wouldn't say it was bad. Amityville Horror was bad. The Omen was just... bland. Some really nice segments but bland over all, especially if you have seen the original. There's little new here to recommend other than a creepy perf. by Mia Farrow.

I liked the original a whole lot more. Sure, the original lacked a bit but the new one was inconsistant with the dogs. Did anyone notice that? At the beginning, the dog was different than what they actually "found". They did have some scary segments, but there was no suspense! The acting plain out sucked in my opinion. The only ones doing the movie any justice was Julia Stiles (comparable to the original actress) and the priest who acted well. Mr. Thorn got better during the movie, but he's no Gregory Peck. Overall, I liked the movie but didn't need to see it in theaters. It had some nice tie ups to loose ends, but other than that it was just mediocre in my opinion. I was actually a little dissapointed. Still, for those who haven't seen the Omen before, maybe seeing the original first would be better. -Kegan

That's funny because Stiles was the only one I really didn't like. She had the toughest role IMO playing a woman who feels her son is "off" and not really a loving mom once she realizes this. I just didn't buy Stiles as a mom period, before or after realizing her son is "off".

The original had Peck, but it was hardly one of his better roles. I think the original has a campiness in its acting style. It's very big. The original had a nice and consistent mood of dread about it, which the new one achieved more than not. But again, I have to go with the script being the main weakness. It VERY much felt like been there done that. I went through a whole checklist in my mind... dog shows up...check.... birthday party....check..... etc. There were no surprises along the way.
