The Official "Next Fest" Idea Submission Thread

What might be interesting is a first time dual theme. Maybe Revenge/Forgiveness.

That way we don't know what's going to happen until near the end of each entry.

I for one really like that idea! I think it would be neat, and would allow for a lot of possibilities. It would be interesting to see where most films swing.

MAH - love it! The dual theme would really open up some possibilities and like you said you wouldnt know what was going to happen.

So Retribution Fest is what it looks like we're swinging towards?

ret·ri·bu·tion Pronunciation: \ˌre-trə-ˈbyü-shən\ Function:noun Etymology:Middle English retribucioun, from Anglo-French, from Late Latin retribution-, retributio, from Latin retribuere to pay back, from re- + tribuere to pay — more at tributeDate:14th century 1: recompense, reward2: the dispensing or receiving of reward or punishment especially in the hereafter3: something given or exacted in recompense ; especially : punishment

So it seems like it'd work with both punishment/revenge or reward....

I'd like to see a fest dealing with "firsts". The first time someone fell in love, the first time someone fell in public, the first time someone did this or that. Or any kind of first actually. Or you could be unique and do seconds or 4ths or something nonsensical. hahahaha

I'm liking the Revenge/Forgiveness fest idea! I have a idea that I'd like to resurrect for that Fest.

cheers,
Jon

I like CrimeFest as well... seems like a lot of revenge/forgiveness stories could fit in that theme as well if anyone still wanted to do that.

Some of my ideas... (sorry if any of these had been stated before)

EndFest or DoomFest -- anything dealing with the end or demise of something... could range from someone ending an ant's life to the apocalypse.

OneFest -- this would be kind of an interesting requirement which I think would tie the submitted films together better but wouldn't really limit genre at all. Basically, you are limited to one character- that doesn't mean that the person has to be absolutely alone in the entire piece... maybe just that they are the only character with lines spoken on screen. Just seems like an interesting writing/directorial challenge to me.

RealFest -- Every project must at least be loosely based upon a real event... ranging from a local crime story to WWII.

edit: If everyone is interested in the dual theme, why not just do "DualFest" where you have to portray two sides of something. That would be far more open... forgiveness seems almost like you just have the same revenge-esque story...but the ending is anti-climatic instead.

and of course...

ZombieFest II (brought back by popular demand) -- honestly, I dont think 90% of the people participating in the fests now were participating when the first ZombieFest happened 4 YEARS AGO. Its nearing Halloween, and who doesn't love a good zombie flick? If it were really that big of a problem to repeat, they could just retitle it "UndeadFest." :D

I reeeeally like this one, would also fit in well with when the contest ends, so much potential here beyond the obvious.

Dead or Alive Fest
Straight up Horror Fest
Revenge/Forgive Fest (good idea with the combination themes for whoever chose that)
Thriller Killer Fest

EDIT: forgot about CrimeFest everyone was talking about before Quest Fest. Hey that can fit a horror genre. I could go for a crime fest.

What ever horrorish fest it is I already have a few ideas. just gotta see which idea fits the fest theme most.

This is much different than whats being currently proposed. The revenge/forgiveness theme means people can pick either or. Trying to do both is a lot more difficult and limiting. This way you can make a film thats completely about forgiveness, or completely about revenge. It would take the mystery out of it if every film contained revenge and forgiveness.

Im really liking DoomFest or EndFest. I've got a pre-apocalypse film on the brain :D

DoomFest or EndFest is actually the only theme idea i had that I didn't already have at least a concept for. All the others I have old script ideas laying around. However, I do think it could be a lot of fun.

DialogueFest, all films are required to have good dialogue and focus on characters and story told through their verbal and emotional exchanges.

Or KaBoomFest. KaBoomFest would be good. All films must include at some point a big kaboom. Borderline Earth Shattering KaBoom.

One of those two.

I'm still gunning for revenge/forgiveness fest. I think that would be very open, and will keep us wondering til the end of every film.
