The Official Manhattan LCD HD Monitor Thread

We received the first few 12V battery adapters, available to order. As the adapter represents an addition to the vDoubler family, it is called vDoubler-SPL; SPL stands for the single plate compact size. It comes in Panasonic, Sony, or Canon configurations. It is rated to provide up to 2A at 12V; just as a point of reference the Manhattan LCD HD089 uses about 1.2A. We also tested the adapter with the SWIT S-1070H monitor which uses even less than that. It can be mounted using several options, a special U-bracket is one of them. The small "fuel gauge" smart LED indicates available battery charge. In our tests here we were getting about 3 hours run time while powering a Manhattan monitor with a HVX style battery. Your mileage will vary, a good new brand name battery could do even better than that. At this point we are not shipping outside CONUS, a larger shipment in July or early August will ship worldwide.
We now offer a vDoubler-SPL adapter preinstalled option when ordering a monitor. No charge for installation (good untill July 31 '09), free "U" mounting bracket.

Fedex delivered my monitor yesterday and the back light on the display is intermittent. The screen is very dark and if you tap the screen it will go to full brightness and then immediately back to being dark.
It looks like it is a good monitor for the second I can see the display.

Sounds like a problem with your unit. Mine doesn't do anything like that.

Dolby, please send it back and we will repair the monitor, sounds like the backlight cable came loose.

I'm still getting my setup right, but this is where I'm at so far. The monitor looks great and I still need to attach that battery, I just don't know how I want to do it yet. Sorry for the crappy blackberry pics.

Alex - I don't really understand how the vDoubler-SPL adapter is attached to the Manhattan LCD. I wonder if you could enlighten me. As I already own such an LCD I need to know what to order.

Sorry about it, I need to take a little more detailed picture. If you look at the image in the bottom http://www.dolgin.net/VDoubler.htm you can see that it is attached with a screw to the threaded hole on the top edge of the monitor back. The original short screw that holds the back cover of the monitor is removed; a longer screw goes through the bracket threaded hole into the monitor threaded hole. Also I recommend a drop of glue once it is mounted to make sure the bracket is prevented from moving in circular/lateral direction.

A few weeks ago you mentioned soft sun hoods for the monitors. Are these still coming out?

The soft sunhoods are on the back burner right now. We are going to make modifications to the exsiting sunhoods now to make them more user freindly.

We are trying to meet the deadline for the HD8400 and HD8900.

That will be fine.... , but let me show you what we've got there:

at first, this is the image what 5D2 produce in Live View and Record modes:

this is Monitor view in "Normal" mode (camera in preview mode, connection - HDMI ) -

I draw the red line to mark real size of the monitor on this and next pictures, so everyone can see size of the image compared to avalable area ...

Next one - Monitor view in "ZOOM" mode (camera in preview mode) ...

then.. Monitor view in "Anamorphic" mode (camera in preview mode) ..... so - where is the "exact fit" of 1920 X1080 resolution you talking about ?? :)... which 5D2 generate in Preview Mode

..and that's what we've got in "1:1" mode -

one more (without menu) :

So .. you are right: This mode will be the best to check the focus... but .. IF, the image CENTERED, and IF we have the button to press it and get this, then relise it and return to PREVIUS mode..
to go for it using menu will be useless - much easy to do "Zoom X5 and X10" on camera...

---------------------------------

Then, when press the "Set" button on 5D2 we've got this: "Monitor view in "ZOOM" mode (camera in RECORD mode) " .. not bad...compare to any others... - I use ONLY this Mode...

Even on it the size of final image still little bit smaller, then avalable size of the screen,
I would prefer to have this kind of view in both - Preview (1920 X 1080p) and Record (720 X480 )modes:

..and that is what your controller's supplier have to work on !!!

Don't you think, that this kind of view will be THE BEST reason for any 5D2 users to order your monitor?? :)

( Personally I don't think that many 5D2 users will spend a lot of money to your future professional display... What for, if camera produce only 720X480 image in record mode ? :) )

The last two pics show you why there is a problem in it: 5D2 produce 1080 p image, NOT 1080 i (!!) .. but controller of your monitor show me this:

Camera in "RECORD" mode -

camera in "Preview" mode:

So...Do you still think that "is nothing wrong with the firmware of the controller" ??

Also, I have to extend - panels of your sunhood, have a holes for mounting screw, which I cut to the edge - so .. now I need only to release the screw a little bit to get the panels off the monitor (or place them back on it ...) :).. instead to take the screw off completely ...

( ...Sorry for my bad English, I never had a chance to learn it in school.. bu I hope everyone will see what I mean.. )

Unfortunately, the 5D Mark II previews in 1080i and once the record button is pressed it previews in 480p. This has nothing to do with the monitor, it is a limitation with the hardware in the camera itself. Just so everyone knows, the Manhattan monitor isn't the problem...

In the future the HD089A with the Brightview panel will receive a new part number. This is an upgraded LCD with higher contrast, brightness, and wider color gumat.

Im going nuts trying to figure out which monitor to get, the marshall, smallhd or manhattan. I never had a monitor before so im not sure what i need and dont need.

I shoot 720p on my HVX and is the res on the 89A enough for focusing and exposer?

thanks

I was on an HVX shoot this weekend and the 89A was more than sharp enough for focus. I use it on my A1 which is 1080p and it's still very good.

For the $400 - $800 dollar price range I would stay away from the Marshall.

I would stick with the Manhattan LCD or SmallHD. The HD089A and SmallHD Dp1 is roughly the same, we use the same parts. The HD089A is 1024*600 and ABS body, SmallHD is 1280*768 and aluminum body, but also there is a $300 dollar price difference, $400 difference with the $100 off coupon we are running right now with the HD089A.

The HD089A or B will provide you more than enough resolution for focusing, we never had a complaint about the resolution not being high enough.

Hi,
I see that you have an upcoming 7.1" LCD .
Is it expected to cost less than the 8.9" HD089A or more?
When is it expected to be released?

The HD071A should be out in about 4 weeks, price is going to be $599, we might run a special on the first 25 pcs.

FYI our HD089C 720p native is avalible now, $699. They will be avaliable tonight on the store. Note we only have a limited supply of these monitors. There is a severe shortage of these panels.
