The official "I got my AF100" thread

I just called Spec-Comm (I hadn't heard anything since the mass email last week) and Jasmine confirmed mine shipped today (3 day air), so I should have it on Friday.

OK, just got off the phone with Full Compass and paid the balance. The camera will be shipping tomorrow, with an ETA Friday :D

It would've been shipped today, but my CC number has changed, and Shawn was out and couldn't call me to get the new number.

I just tried calling them and they're already closed. Billygoat must have had a different salesperson than Shawn and that's why he got the email and we didn't. I'm sure I'll hear from Shawn tomorrow or I'll just call and get it taken care of.

I was #13 and have heard nothing.

EDIT: I just called Full Compass. Shawn Tallard is out sick today. I left him a voicemail asking what's going on with my order. I should have been called by now if yours is already shipping since I was originally 9 slots ahead of you. I haven't even received a call to pay for the rest of the camera. This doesn't make me happy.

Yes, as someone guessed, I'd had a different sales person, and I do know Shawn was out sick today. I received an e-mail this morning saying that Shawn had learned late last week that the expected AF100's were confirmed inbound to their warehouse. I did not receive notice of this at that time. Their office was closed Friday. Since I really needed my AF for an upcoming shoot, I actually secured another one from another vendor, only to learn this morning (after making a request for refund) that mine was inbound. So I've decided to keep my original order, and the other vendor already had someone in line to snatch up the one I decided not to take.

So, from my salesperson who was at Full Compass today - They've received 20 units, (mine was prepaid in full since November), and I've fallen within the group of that 20. I was told my camera will likely go out today, or at the very latest tomorrow. My sales person has been very responsive in replying with information. My one wish is that they would have informed me (as I'd requested), when they did have awareness of an expected ship date or inbound cameras, as timing is important for my upcoming project. I suspect those who were working with Shawn will be taken care of promptly tomorrow or when he is able to get back to the office.

For what it's worth - ordered from B&H on Dec. 27th, and our order status just changed from "backordered" to "in stock, order shipped to warehouse." So things seem to be moving pretty briskly over there.

Finally picked up our two AF100's from my local FedEx office after getting back into town. Just did some quick test records on resolution, flesh and chroma du monde charts, plus some real world interior, exterior scenes, all shot with a Nikon 85mm f1.4. Stuck the SD card into a Blu Ray player that feeds a 100" screen/1080P DLP projector. Stuff looks great, noise is similar to our HPX170, but doesn't get worse at ISO 800. Resolution looks good, colors were natural, highlight handling okay except for some chroma clipping, but overall, very little in the way of artifacts to pull me out of the footage. I watch P2 Varicam direct out of the cameras, EX1's, 170, Ki Pro, and this footage looked great, nothing untoward to be seen. I think this funny looking little camera will be a big winner. I can't imagine why anyone would go out of their way to shoot with a DSLR or DOF adapter anymore. Had a client asking to rent one of our Letus Ultimates for a few days coming up--I told him he should really come over and see the AF100!

I picked it up in person and checked it out with Abel's tech, but the Hot Rod kit does not come with any shims. This is not an issue with the lenses; I contacted Hot Rod camera to inquire about shims and was told that shims are to be purchased separately from the Tuner Kit. Hot Rod will sell a set of shims in the near future, but not yet. I'm personally unsure whether PL shims are all equal or if the Hot Rod mount takes a proprietary type.

It seems I owe Ilya an apology- I went to my local rental house today (HD Camera Rentals) to see about shimming my HotRod to correct spec, and it seems that it is, in fact, already spot on. Oddly, a tech checked out the focus accuracy of the unit at Abel the day I picked it up with a couple lenses of theirs that were supposed to be freshly calibrated, but were off then, and I hadn't had a chance to check it again with another set of quality controlled lenses till today. It still looks to me like the needed shims would need to be cut to a special size to fit the HotRod mount, but I'm glad to say I didn't need them after all.

I just heard that there are over 2000 AF100's on back order from a good source. Looks like preordering was a wise move for many of us. Both of our cameras have double digit serial numbers. The 400-500 in the first batch are obviously spoken for. And, as I've posted before, all of these cameras come from a few select distributors, not directly from Panasonic.
