The official "I got my AF100" thread

I got an e-mail from the supplier in Holland, I can expect delivery on Jan 6, that's in 7 days from now.

And I'll buy your book Barry!

I was going to buy the AF100 Book but wow what a great gift and a pleasant surprise!

Thank you Jan and Barry!

My AF100's are now in town--but I'm not!
At least I got to spend a couple hours with one a couple of days ago.

Great to hear about Barry's book, Jan obviously sees the value of that resource. Thank you both!

Not gloating here by posting a bunch of photos but wanted to remind people of a fact stated a few times in the AF100 forum. You definitely need some sort of lens support with big lenses!. I pre-bought this RedRock one knowing I'd be using my Nikkor 80-200 which weighs 2.84 lbs. I mounted the lens with the support pre-positioned and gentle removed my hand. I could clearly see the lens flexing the Voightlander adapter(which fits nice & snug btw) and the adapter flexing in the camera's m4/3rds mount. I then carefully raised the lens support a few millimeters until it seemed to be at it's natural/neutral mounted position. Phillip Bloom's old 80-200 must of been bouncing in the Japan tests.

**Edit: and just found out how you'll know if you "over supported" the lens. When taking the lens off of the adapter (while adapter stays on camera) it should rotate off very smoothly. When I did it, there was noticeable resistance and the lens jumped a hair when it disengaged from the adapter from having to much vertical pressure supporting the front of it. Lesson #1 for today for me.

Whooooooooooooooooooo!

Just seen editmans vid on vimeo called Christmas looks real smooth, if your here editman how smooth did you find the oympus lenses and did you edit native or in pro rez.

Good to see straight footage editman as thats more my style as l do travel more than narrative. Did you film AVCHD or vis nano flash.

Edit wise native as per Premier or Pro Rez via FCP. Im mainly editing native now on Premier CS5 than FCP. Would like yours and others thoughts on native edit or pro rez.

This camera is being to look very good, have had my doubts but being to think might be worth buying!

Let me say this. I had my doubts in the course of the last month when footage started to leak but this camera is for real. I don't want to shoot DSLR-video anymore...

Native has it's pros in that you don't need to transcode. I've been doing this in Premiere CS5 this fall with commercials and corporate videos with Canon 7D and 5D material and for the time letting Avid MC rest.
I shot both pieces in AVCHD in-camera.

the status of my parcel hasn't changed. I fear if i don't see it hit the border by tonight then there is a good chance it will be late... :(

yes, i agree nice shots for sure. the camera has so much potential with correct settings. i also think this is the first footage from the camera that has shown how shallow it really can be, i had doubts when the F3 footage came out and it was very shallow; all lens settings and the af100 is capable of it.

Thanks for all the info editman, all good news re edit and camera functionality, thanks for posting footage really good to see. Looks like CS5 will win hands down on the edit side too. Just need to get some AVCHD
native files/footage to compare against my EX1R for clean ness of image. Found with the new version Premier 5.0.3 colorista II works really well for grading on the timeline.

Camera arrived a couple hours ago! Hoping to get up super early and shoot some sunrise/early morning city life to test it out. Of course that depends on how late I stay up playing with it tonight...
