The official "I got my AF100" thread

Yep. In the USA, from authorized USA dealers. Future shipments will have it in the box, but in these early shipments there's a coupon for a free copy. Just fill that out with your serial number and send it in, and you'll get one of the first copies that comes off the presses, totally free.

So completely awesome! Thank you Jan and Barry!

Cool!

Cool!

I actually don't know. I haven't been given dates for how long the promotion will run. I would guess it will still be going in May, but only Jan can answer that.

Wow! That is super kind Barry. I bought your previous book and loved it.

Thanks for the nice gift.

I pre-ordered my AF100 and probably won't be getting it for a few weeks but am super excited about this amazing camera.

Happy New Year!

Simon

hi barry!

why just usa?(better question for jan)would be nice to have the book as a gift in europe as well...
Because Jan is the product manager for the USA, and she is the one who made the arrangements. Jan has no involvement with other territories, such as Europe or Canada or Latin America, etc. If any of those territories want to include the book, I'd love to talk to the product managers for those territories to see if we can make arrangements. Right now, this is a bonus to USA buyers because the USA is the only territory that is offering it.

epic!

I was wondering when someone was going to finally get one in the USA and find that in there...

Yes, the AF100 book is rolling off the presses right now. Couldn't get it done in time for it to be included in the box, but Jan has graciously decided to offer it free to every buyer, even those who bought based on pre-orders. So nobody misses out just because they were early adopters!

It was an extremely pleasant surprise. Thanks for putting the hard work on such a short timetable to get this out to us. I'm sure it will be of great help.

AF100 moving South

Richmond, VA. Just got a call from my local dealer. His initial shipment is leaving NJ today and should be in town early next week ! Wondering how quickly I can learn a new camera.... I've already got clients wanting to shoot with it. I'm very knowledgeable with the menu structure of the HVX/HPX (owned them from the start) .... is the AF100 set up the same way ? I missed our local demo due to work and couldn't get my hands on it. Can I dial in the white balance on both Red/Blue and Green/Yellow as on the GH1 ? I will be super stoked if this is possible.

Thanks - Dave

Yes, extremely similarly. All the same settings from the HPX are there, plus a few more. They don't necessarily act exactly the same; the AF100's master ped is -15 to +15, whereas on the HPX170 it's -100 to +100; the A.Iris is -6 to +6, on the HPX170 it's -10 to +10, and I also think the Chroma Phase is more accurately aligned to zero on the AF100 (on the DVX/HVX, you had to go to -4 for the most accurate colors, whereas on the AF100 it seems to be about accurate at zero).

Can I dial in the white balance on both Red/Blue and Green/Yellow as on the GH1 ? I will be super stoked if this is possible.
Yes, but not in the same way. On the AF100 you use the Color Temp for red/blue, and Chroma Phase for magenta/green.

It's similar, but far more readable. Visually it's like the HMC150.

Woohoo! I just heard from Full Compass that my AF100 ships out today.

Just got a call from Shawn at FullCompass as well. I cannot recommend them highly enough. My camera is being shipped out today as well!

Joe (Zaza) recommended them to me and a big thanks to him as well. I never want to buy gear anywhere else.

Did Full Compass say how many they got in?

Awesome that Barry's book is included with the camera!

Battery is charging. Besides the Barry Green book (fantastic), I noticed the hole spacing for the mic holder does not seem to fit the hole spacing on the camera (I need to take another look at that). Also, I have Volume 1 of the owner's manual in English and Spanish but not volume 2 (not a problem, I have the pdfs Jan provided). I had 5 of my old Nikon lenses "repurposed" by RP Lens (dealt with Peter). The service at RP Lens was great and they fixed up the 50mm which had gotten a little loose. David.

Got it.... thanks Barry !!! As stated, your HVX/HPX book is an invaluable tool in learning how to develop your own look/feel with these cameras.

Dave.

Glad you found it useful! The AF100 book is very similar, in fact many sections are repurposed, because -- well, the info is the same because the functionality is the same. But there's whole new sections, especially if you're coming from the HVX/HPX Book. It has a lot of very similar or same info, but then there's probably a good hundred or 150 pages that's totally different and new.

I do hope that it proves a useful and valuable guide for folks to learn their new camera, so they can get the best from it.
