Thank you CD for engineering the 7Q for a robust working environment!
Last week, I was shooting a promo with a new assistant (you already know where this is going) and after mounting the FS700 on the tripod and then mounting the 7Q to the FS700, he called me over to complain about the tripod head being too cheap. He wanted to use his own tripod and I said no, it was a static shot, I didn't need anything else. So to "prove" me wrong, he shook the pan handle to show how much the rig giggled about. Unfortunately, he hadn't secured the Odyssey yet (mini ballhead on the top cold shoe) and the Odyssey fell off the camera from a height of 6 feet. I was standing on the opposite side that the Odyssey fell on and I couldn't grab it in time...but I did mange to grab the power/SDI cables. Crisis averted.
While I've heard many enthusiasts complain about BNC connected devices being artificial expensive and I even had one friend comment that the locking power connector on my Odyssey was engineering overkill, this is the second time in my career that locking connectors have saved my butt!
Locking connectors are like seatbelts. You could go your whole life without needing them, but when you do, you'll be alive because of them.
Buying a new power cable instead of a new Odyssey. Phew!
