I'll be interested to see reviews and footage on these cams, but why would you want to buy a 7D when you can get a gh2 for much less, and get superior image quality?

Why do people post their opinions as facts? The gh2 is not a better camera more so than a 7d is not a better camera. they are different and excel and things differently. Also Canon Eos lenses + third party support and gear is something the Gh2 does not have and probably never will. There is more to an image that just perceived sharpness and moire. Canons produce a very natural picture right from the camera that is unmatched. The gh2 while sharper has a smaller form factor, less support and a higher crop sensor making fast wide lens more difficult to be bought. No camera is better than the other, so please stop it.

But my camera is always the better camera... I'm confused now. :(

No, but some are more effective than others. The 7D isn't one of them.

Ha Ha, nice one Ian. 7d vs pana gh its the same old boring conversation walking around like a zombie from two years ago.
edit: to the original poster, there are at least 2 or 3 other threads going about the new Sony Cams. This thread went off topic from the start

....I'm curious. How old is everyone posting in this thread?

It's not about old or young, it's just that many people on these boards say Gh2 is better than Canon 7D and vice versa. No one can clearly say which camera is better as they do different things better than one another and at the end of the day there are far to many factors for one to judge. Gh2 is said to be sharper and less prone to alias and moire, but does that make it better? Not when you think about everything else these Canon Dslrs do and how they are used in the industry.

So I say once again yes this is old and tired argument, but still must be noted because people feel that this or that camera is better when that is truly not the case, at least imo

From the first original file samples I'm watching the a77 videos are like canons if not worse. The interlaced ones are FULL of moiré.
The progressive ones are soft and with moiré too.
The VG20 that has less MP to work with does look more sharp compared to the a77 but still nothing extraordinary and shows moiré too. At least this is what I GOT watching the samples available.
A revolution my ass.

I fear Canon will do the same with new DIGIC 5 considering they will follow the MP war

All of the A77 videos I've seen posted, including the MTS files from DpReview, are very badly shot from a cinematography perspective. ( some are over-exposed, most are shot with the lens stopped down to f/16 or more, and are probably using a shutter speed of 1/250 or higher )

Until we can see some raw footage shot by someone who knows what they are doing, there's nothing to judge the A77 performance by. Wait for proper footage to show up.

I know, I was giving my opinion based on the pure technical resolution aspect of the videos. We'll see, but doesn't look promising to me :(
