The new Nikon D4

Very, very impressive. I hope Canon replies with a bump on the 1DX video features- specially the uncompressed HDMI out.

Nikon was/is the black horse/ wild card of the race. They can, if they want, completely dominate the market. This is a step in the right direction. Curious to see what they mean with h264 b compression: 4:2:0? How many mb/sec? Better than Canon announced 1DX compression?

Nikon Cameras are the absolute kings in low light. This should be the ultimate low light camera until the competition catches up...

I know, it's terrible that I am posting about features I want in a product. It's not like 10-bit AVC-Intra is available on any camera under $10k...oh wait never mind.

Even with lag it's probably super useful for remote operation of the camera. You can start/stop without having to reach for it if it's on a jib or otherwise away from you.

...and just to make you shiver....
What if this thing gets hacked? It has the new CRAZY fast cards...dang! (Although the uncompressed out will likely outperform that...especially in the color space)

One final note...I think the bigger story here is that Nikon finally showed up. The additional video features here show that they are going to put effort SPECIFICALLY in the video side of things. Wahoo!!! This cycle may or may not be a big deal, but, seeing as they don't have to protect their "video" dept/sales...we can all hope for aggressive video features in Nikon DSLRs. Let's all hope that they do!

1080p30 HD video at up to 24Mbps

It sounds like Nikon have been paying attention in class! The footage looks good in the Why Athletes promo, pretty much covering most scenarios well.
Interested to read this on Dpreview. Seems to be an ETC mode ala GH2??
Movies can also be shot at three different crops from the sensor, which Nikon is describing as FX, DX and 2.7X (native 1920x1080).

Off cam touch screen focusing would be yummy, if they get the focusing right (ie, no hunting).

Would be interesting to know how many lines it resolves...short of the C300/F3 it would appear.

Ok. But come on, it was a little funny... :)

As maybe like a "The Onion" style camera release story...

If you want to speak freely this is not the place.

It took years of work, hundreds of lives, and billions of dollars but now the dream is true - for $6,000 you too can have a stills camera with a portable AM radio headphone jack.

Live the dream.

LMFAO!

What it shoots stills too?

But it doesn't come in RED so it can't be any good.

I could be wrong but it could be amazing.

Some additional nice features, I think not mentioned yet:
  • Low-pass filter for video recording
  • Smooth aperture feature for video recording
Moiré-free and with smooth aperture? Wow...

It seems they did everything right. This is as much a video camera as a DSLR can be. Sure, somewhen will appear the weak points but...
