considering i've used my optical drive maybe twice in the last 6 months, i might get one of these for toting around -- email, web, etc. but i'm going to wait to see how hot it gets. i'm sick of burning myself on my macbook pro.

Too expensive. Only having one USB 2.0 port limits it for editing work. For e-mail and web on the road I'd rather use an iphone. Very pretty though.

and why would anyone want to edit on this thing? It's definitely not designed for the pro market...it's for the posh spenders that want the next best thing in the smallest form factor, etc...lifestyle stuff.

It's cool, but at least for me I don't think it's very practical. I use my USB ports and my optical drive often.

Besides. From the looks of it, I think I would break it...

This thing will be THE must have item for all the guys in the design/advertising industry...

Except we actually need the optical drive. And assorted connectors. I predict a high poseur-to-MBA ratio for this one, even though I think it looks pretty sweet.

I should have clarified, that I don´t mean the guys doing the actuall work like photoshop or illustrator artists, but rather the decision makers, planners and the guys handling the budgets...
I also like it and would prefer it over a normal MacBook, it´s lighter and looks much nicer...

I just don't know if it really fills any niche. Not enough features for the pro set. Too expensive for casual users, and there are smaller cheaper devices around like the iphone, blackberry or palm which are fine for e-mailing and lite web browsing on the go. Maybe the Paris Hilton's of the world will get one, but how many of those customers are there? It's purely a PR stunt. We got the world's thinnest laptop! Hoorah for Apple.

Wouldn't that apply to just about any industry, then?

Maybe you guys have never worked a 9-to-5 white-collar job...

Basically, the most important thing everyone needs is somethng easy to carry to meetings so they can surf the web while pretending to pay attention. The occasional PowerPoint presentation. Microsoft office. This think fits that niche perfectly.

It's also small enough so as not not to block your view when you glance around the coffee house to see if anyone's noticing how cool you are because you have one. Bonus! :)

Seriously, though, if people travel a lot and need more than a tiny screen, lightweight and slim is a definite attractor (he says after lugging his 17" around . . . ). You can't argue with a full backlit keyboard, either.

Expensive.

Maybe. If it were 700 dollars cheaper it would fly out the door. As is, it's an attractive curiosity.

I'm pretty sure this will fly out the door…

…in Japan. That has always been the biggest market for sub-notebooks.

It's pretty and alll, but it is only 1/4" thinner than the Macbook, and less than 1/4" thinner than the Macbook Pro. I realize that's 25% thinner, but really. Does not matter.

What's the big deal? That it's pretty?

Edit: Okay... 2 lbs. lighter. I guess I'm just a big, strong guy though carrying 5 lbs around.
