The new GH2 and the Hack

How would anybody know? The camera is not released yet.

Folks could make something up and say yes, but that does not help anybody.

Once the successor of the GH1 ever gets announced, who's to say Panasonic wont try and put a lock on the firmware like they may do to the AF100. Then again, they could do the opposite and offer a much higher bit rate mode and warn users that class 10 cards are recommended.

They most likely implement the changes achieved with the hack. It should have at least 24PN and a more robust version of the avchd codec. Hopefully the mjpeg implementation will have an option for 1080p24.

if they put a lock on it..people will just be buying the GH1 as the hacks becomes better and better by the day....and that wont be good for panasonic marketting either.Did the hack achieve a 5 year ahead of its time or what? the hack will force the competitors to be even better. In the end the hack was the initiators and enablers of new technologies to be developed. It sets the standards and sets the tone where consumer is king. Bravo the hackers!!!!!

I see the hack as poetic justice. We were always at the mercy of the manufacturers, now it will be dictating what they should be manufacturing!

Then Vitaliy will hack the lock! Then hack the Gh2. He will make the camera shoot all by itself while we direct.

I figured that their may be attempts to break the lock and be successful. For sure this changes everything. First Canon gives people manual controls and 24p to the 5D Mark II, than the GH1 get's hacks that's far better than the hacks the Canon 5D Mark II has received.

It's like I said elsewhere, things will be interesting if the new cameras does get hacked especially knowing that top SDXC cards should be more capable of achieving high bit data than top SDHC cards.

The prototype GH4-X I tested for Panny last month did have natice 24p, but in 24p mode it forced the camera to shoot in "cinematic" color mode. Full HD was available at 24Mbps.

The reps said the firmware was hard programmed in the camera...and that there would be no firmware upgrades...or "hacking" for that matter.

Huh?

I have you beat.

Just last week Panasonic gave me the newer GH7 to test which is slightly smaller than the Sony NEX5 with a built in viewfinder and articulating screen. It was shocking to see an HD HDI output port at first glance but when I shot some footage side by side with a 5D Mark II, I was surprised that the low light capabilities are more than twice as good as the Canon. I was told that they originally planned to release this model in 2012 but decided that because of the hack, they'll release it in November of this year.

It's also a Global Live MOS chip so no rolling shutter. I even tested it against the Panasonic HPX3700 at an event and the GH7 blew it away in detail and colors. It does have the new AVC-Intra 200 if you don't want to use the HD-SDI output.

The price is expected to be $1,200 when released.

Then Viatalys hack was 3 years ahead of his time if they moved the launch to this year instead of 2012.Thats what I mean its all fast forward from now on. Then he will hack again the next new line etc.etc. ....next thing we know we are holding a 21st century camera able to dislodge film at the theatres sooner than we think.

To swyzlstyx and Camera Expert;

So you had a GH4-X or a GH7 for testing?

Funny that Google does not show a single result for any of those cameras. And you had them already....

You must really be lucky to get the cameras, before even some Internet rumors about them appears.

Please send pictures from these cameras. I am very curious how they look.....

You didn't hear this from me. (I could get in a lot of trouble for posting this.)

You won't find stuff this cutting edge in a Google search...Panny is sure of that!!
