The Mushroom King – A ridiculous adventure through a medieval fantasy land, about 2 knights who are searching for mushrooms.

dir: Peter Muehlenberg
dp: Patrick Jennings

mostly shot on the sony Z1 in the psuedo 25p mode w/ SGpro and nikon primes. though some of it was shot on the little sony A1P with the SGpro.

part two - http://vimeo.com/3436673

the audio could use some work and some shots need CC to match the scenes. but the director kinda gave up editing it. he might do a new cut and get an original score done in the future though.

Excellent movie for children. "Time is of the essence!"

I watched Part 1.
Good luck with the movie.

Well, youve got shutter right i think and theres no soap opera blur ,it looks very filmic at times when theres no whites visible ,i think your cam operator should be more careful with white balance and avoid blown out whites cause it looks too videoish... i really like some takes ,look very filmic , i think i would CC it , maybe take away some blue or reds cause it looks like it wasnt colour corrected.
First takes have those white areas ,white balance should be on manual and sky should be visible ,instead there is just white hole and it looks like video camera.
What shutter and framerate did you use ?

unfortunately the blown out areas were unavoidable at the time, either because of the location or the weather. it's just one of those limitations when shooting on video.

i'm not sure if any of it has been graded or not.... i'm not the editor. i do agree that some of it needs to be matched shot for shot. mostly it's the stuff shot on different days for the same scene and the pickups shot on the A1P that look out of place.

i'm an avid colour grader myself and appreciate good grading. i might force the director to let me at it sometime soon :)

everything was shot in 25p with a 1/50 (180 degree) shutter
