has anybody watched the short Broken? I'm asking because I've seen the site and the DVD looks pretty interesting, says they have great reviews... by ebert even. but its a bit expensive for a short film... at least for me... 20bucks i think... is there any good do it yourself info?? I don't wanna get suckered in again!! thanks guys

Some of the special features are ok... the movie itself is kind of a letdown. I think most of the special feature information on the DVD can be found here on DVXuser, just by looking around :)

thanks brandon... hey you guys playing football this weekend?? is it an open invite... or for "senior members" only?? :)

Brandon called it right on. I bought it at $15, but it still wasn't worth it. $10 plus free shipping might be a decent deal on it...

thanks for the input guys... I'm at a total DIY level... and I personally like watching any project shot on the DVX... gives me something to reference my craft using the DVX. your advice just saved me $20 buckaroos... thanks

IMHO the one thing to take from those Broken guys, the one thing to give them credit for, is getting their project done, and getting it hyped and out there in the market place. That's a real skill. But Brandon is right. These boards are a great resource, as are books, and just shooting and practicing ... especially with other more experienced people.

Also... for inspiration's sake... pick up the book "Rebel without a Crew"

That truly inspires you to get out and DO IT :)

got my fix of Broken.

got my fix of Broken.

finally got a chance to see Broken... I have to agree with Mars United... they really did a great job with their marketing techniques and simply getting their project done. I'm still working on my 9 month old feature. (Jan '08 deadline) Audio is a bi*ch. I do however appreciate their ability to execute their storyboards so precise. Didn't the director try out for On the Lot? That's what I heard.

Agree with Brandon on Rebel Without a Crew. A little dated, but a very inspiring read that will make you think you can make it (and you can!)

Just about any Rodriguez DVD has great how-to on the cheap "10 Minute Film School" extras.

I haven't seen it, but my understanding is that the Special Edition DVD of Princess Diaries has a great commentary by Gary Marshall where he basically spills his guts with 30 years of filmmaking experience and tricks of the trade, many of them just common set ideas, not budget busters.

Yeah, if you spend any time on this site the "Broken" stuff will be old news. Although it will definitely make you ask yourself why you aren't pulling off the same thing!
