The most likely culprit?

I recently ordered 16gb of ddr3 1066 RAM for my imac (it's a late 2009 27 inch model) only to run into some issues with it. At first, after installation, everything was wonderful and it was like a whole new computer. I got to work editing but my issues started when it came time to export. Premiere could not for the life of it get through a whole video. It wouldnt matter if I used the media encoder or just exported directly from premiere, but the whole computer would freeze up and I would have to manually restart. After playing around with a few settings I gave up and put the factory RAM back in the computer and the problem went away. Now I'm just trying to figure out what went wrong. For reference, this is the RAM I bought:

So do you guys think that I got a bad piece of equipment, or did I make some kind of mistake in ordering? Two other factors to consider, my computer says that it's ram is 1067 mhz and what I ordered was 1066. I had always been under the impression that both meant 1066.66 and different companies labeled them differently, is that correct? Also, the packaging of the ram was labeled LAPTOP MEMORY, not apple memory, did they ship me the wrong product? It seems odd that a respectable dealer like newegg would do that, and that the memory would work at all if that were the case.
