Ok, so here it is. I've had this short film finished for a while now, but was holding off posting it for several reasons. First and foremost, because I was trying to get a better compression of it, but that just didn't happen. It's a 22 minute film and Cleaner 6 keeps crashing when I try to compress the 35gig self contained export file from FCP. Apple's compressor did the job ok, but it's a darker than it really is. Hence the reason I opted to contain this 134mb file as a 120mb zip. If you stream it in your browser, the white background of the window makes the image appear even darker. When you unzip the file, watch it in your quicktime player and it should be easier to view.
The other reason I held off was because of the subject matter. Looking back on it, I should have just written a purely entertainment based flik, but I didn't so... *allow me explain:
Back around the time the DVX came out, I knew I wanted to get into film making. I've been a professional comic book artist and animation designer and was practically directing visually on paper for the better part of a decade. I finally decided to take the shot at film making on a credit card budget. My intention was to shoot a simple story in a weekend just to get my feet wet in everything from pre to post production. *But what story do I write and shoot?
Then September 11th 2001 came around. *I happened to be living in NYC at the time and the jets flew right over my building down 5th avenue. Little did I know, a childhood acquaintence of mine, Jeremy Glick, was on flight 93 at the time. *Additionally, right around this time, my eyes were glued to the cable news channels watching our world being turned to crap by extremists coming out of the woodwork, killing innocent people while invoking the name of God every other sentence. *Pissed off doesn't being to describe how I was feeling. *My outlet? My first short film. (mind you, I'm not a religious person at all, but I stand behind the message of equality in this film)
The short comings I'm already aware of in this short is the story is preachy in an after school special kind of way. But that was intentional as it was an emotional reaction to what I described above. *I wanted to slap extremists in the face with their own nonsense. *So if you judge the script, do so as an after school special script and not as a commercial entertainment piece. The other short coming I know will bother some is the score to the film isn't original. The core of it is from "signs" so apologies if that ruins it for you and takes you out of the narrative. I have to learn how to use garage band or find a really talented person who's interested in scoring for me on future (non controversial) projects.
Bear in mind, this was my first film ever. This was my first time writing, first time directing, first time producing, first time editing, first time doing sound design, first time doing special effects... Hell, you name it, it was my first time doing it. * *Ever.
With all that in mind, feedback is greatly appreciated. But like I said, please keep all that in mind when doing so
*I'm more than happy to answer any and all questions, especially regarding the production technicals.
