Currently writing a feature version of a short film I did two years ago that an agent in LA found on the net. Nothing will probably come of it, but you never know. They sure won't find it if it's not out there.

I can't because I've never had that much money for something this short (12 minutes).
Here's 12 minutes made for $2K, $900 of which was the motel location. I think I could pretty easily sell that I spent $8K to $10K on this. Though it was first DSLR shoot so a few shots we wish we had a do over on.

I don't expect someone to give me $5 mil to make a feature; But if the web series gets a fanbase it would definitely help is raising money for a feature. At very least it would make for a much more successful Kickstarter Campaign. Just look at The Angry Video Game Nerd. He raised $200k from fans to make his film.
There's also was a web series called "We Need Girlfriends" that got picked up by CBS. If it gets popular, investors will see a value in it.
You made a 3k production for 2k - congrats, but ultimately where is the claim of 8k coming from? What is an 8k production? Truth is if you told me you spent 5k i would believe you, hell even if you said i spent 20k i would believe you. That is not the point. Now what would a client think about your claim - would they be really impressed? Well, it just doesn't work that way - a client would come with a budget of 20k and you would have done it, they would come with 5k and you would have done it too. Claims of "I've done it for so little" only matter when something spectacular gets accomplished.
I made a post a month or so ago about making a web series. I am working on a script but I don't have the budget for a film, so I wanted to make it into an ambitious web series first in hopes to attract investors to eventually make a feature.
The thing is I've been doing research on other web series and the all kinda suck. Most web series that are successful is really stupid humor that people email and post on facebooks for a quick cheap laugh. I fear the internet audience has too short an attention span for the dark comedy I want to make. What do you guys think????
and not to judge, but it does sound like you're taking the easy route of a web series rather than putting in the effort to make your project as it SHOULD be made. In other words, work towards your medium. If you're trying to make a feature, make a feature. If you're trying to make a web series, make a web series. If you have a really good script, get it out there and it will get noticed, or bought, or funded. If it's not getting any of those things, it's probably not very good. Or you're just not trying hard enough.
I really believe that if you want to make a feature, the money's out there... you just have to put in the leg work to find it. And if your project calls for a feature, I encourage you to make it as a feature and not *compromise*. If you want to make a web series, I suggest you start with an idea tailored to take advantage of that medium.
I'm not sure the reasoning, why would yo think that a web series would attract investors for your feature film???
(totally side note, noone can take $3k and make it look like $20k - 3k is scraped together one day of shooting while $20k is well funded 2 days - though the opposite is possible and done pretty much everyday)
Exactly. We knew that cheap was a factor, we wanted to figure out how to produce innovate and challenging content uber-cheap. We discovered that in the end, most audiences just want to be entertained. There's plenty of people doing oh-so funny jibber japper already. We'll take a pass on that one.....
