The marketplace rules are fornicating your users.

I'm getting out of the business. I'm having a fire sale. I signed up here so I could list gear (I have a ton of stuff; everything from sliders, follow focus, monitors, apple boxes, cameras etc) but you have a 60 day waiting period for new posts in the marketplace? I have another 30 days to get rid of all this stuff before I move - so needless to say your users are never going to see any of it. I'll sell all of this stuff through other methods easy enough (I've already sold half of it) but if I were a member here I'd be PO'd that information is being withheld for seemingly arbitrary reasons. Heck, just the days you made me wait for 'approval' left DVXusers out of things I sold so cheap I feel nauseous.

What's the benefit of the marketplace to your members if you're going to withhold information from them?

Geez Art,

I feel terrible. Its so rare to see sliders, follow focus, monitors, apple boxes, and cameras for sale. But the policy does keep us from feeling fornicated when someone drops in, with no record or account of who they are and tries sells a bunch of stuff. Its often the case that they are just here to rip us off. Not you of course, but others have tried it.

Do spend some time here when you get a chance and post on some other topics.

I only buy things from people on this forum with an established record. It's not an arbitrary rule, it's for our protection. Nothing is stopping you from listing on ebay! Good luck.

This is a community of professional users intended to collaboratively assist each other.

The Marketplace is privilege here, not a right.

It appears that you joined here for the exclusive purpose of using the member base as a source of revenue, and nothing more.

Ebay seems a better fit for you. Good luck on your sales there.

I love being fornicated by the marketplace rules. Prevents me from wasting my time scanning items for sale from users with 1 post who joined yesterday. It has been much improved since the introduction of the new rules and they were put in place in to control this very problem. No way I'm buying from a user without a demonstrated contribution to this site, that I've had no personal interactions with or no reputation at stake.

I really wish I could set it so that the Marketplace doesn't show up when I hit New Posts, since I rarely read by forum. I go to the site and hit New Posts and then pick and choose based on subject, but would love a view without the for sale ads. I don't want to hide them completely, I just want some way to see new posts without them.

Forums are populated by two kinds of people, those who take and those who give. I saw a complaint on another forum I use where a graduate complained because his availability for work at a crazy price was removed by the mods. It was his first post and he accused everyone of all sorts, but the truth is the entire forum is populated by people looking for work, who contribute to the community which in my view is the point. Like here, you can ask for help, and people put themselves out to try to get you going, they gain nothing but a good feeling for at least trying. If you need to sell things quick, use eBay.

Thanks for reminding me why I quit coming here in the first place. I sold my stuff elsewhere. Some of it I even gave away for free. Everyone who was interested was invited to my home. I got no joy or benefit out of selling my gear. I lost my a**. Makes no difference to me at this point whether you got in on it or not. I used to come here. Certainly bought a ton of stuff in the forum from other users. I remember this being a pleasant experience back before this forum turned into what it is now. Paul, you only joined in 2009 - I stopped coming here before you were even a member. Only signed up for a new account because I couldn't recall the login (I originally used some now long dead hotmail account to sign up back before I had my own website - even if I asked for a password hint I couldn't even access the account to view it). The responses to this post - the snarky, mean, arrogant, exclusionary, unfriendly nonsense is EXACTLY why I bailed on DVXuser. This place used to be a welcoming joy to visit. For some reason you guys have all become a bunch of nasty, miserable communistic snobs who treat everyone with suspicion and anger. You've turned a cool place into a sheltered dystopian nightmare.

Feel free to bag on me some more if it makes you feel better. The grapes were probably sour anyway.

You certainly brought this on yourself, didn't you?

Starting with the snarky, mean, arrogant, exclusionary, and unfriendly subject header, and continuing with the last post.

We have a 60 days waiting period because new users generally present the highest incidence of fraudulent postings in the Marketplace. We have several attempted thousand dollar scams, 99% of which came from new users who don't participate except in the Marketplace.

We ask people to contribute here as a community, rather than come here just to sell items without participation elsewhere. Hardly exclusionary or arrogant; seems just the opposite.

Best of luck to you.

Posting to online communities is analogous to gazing into a big mirror, Art. You will see exactly the attitude that you post.

Also, for the record, Communistic Bear is Best Bear.

That's good news Art. It looks like you didn't need dvxuser.com after all and it worked out very well for everyone. In only three days, you were able to sell or give away your stuff, people got some great bargains, and no one got fornicated. Good job all-around.

Any mod would have been happy to help you access your original account, Art (assuming you weren't banned). Then you could have posted your stuff for sale with no problem, and you could have avoided the rude, obnoxious, and accusatory thread of your own making.

This isn't on us in any way, shape, or form. This is entirely on you.
