GH3 The Lumix 35-100 2.8 New or old for the GH5?

I read the only real difference is compatibility with dual stabilization. Nothing was said about a better optical Formula or parfocal.

Dual IS will be added via firmware update. I don't think there's going to be much difference. I personally went for the new one because sometimes you never know what translates over on software, and I wanted to ensure it was the latest. If money is tight it's probably a really good time to buy one, because it's likely going to be nearly identical performance wise.

Is the new version parfocal?
Of course not. Lumix zoom lenses are designed to be compact and light weight, and rely on electronic control of iris and focus to simulate constant aperture and parfocal behavior.

What I'm interested to know is whether the OIS in the new version corrects the panning instability issues of the current firmware in the f2.8 zooms.

You positive about that? How does Panny get that done without an Iris ring?

It was mentioned in some of the CES 2017 Panasonic rep interviews. But no mention if this was for ALL new lenses or only the high-end ones.

From the way the reps described it, the aperture does NOT instantly jump from one F-stop to another, but rather goes through a smooth aperture change from one F-stop to another. No idea how fast this takes place, or if we have any control over the speed of the aperture change.

The penultimate firmware upgrade for my 12-35mm f/2.8 got rid of hand-held jitter, so once the lens has been upgraded to DUAL IS 2, I expect the only difference is the smooth aperture change and the freeze-proof feature. I plan on keeping my 12-35mm f/2.8 mk1 lens, but I've already sold my 35-100mm f/2.8 because of the dang hand-held jitter, so there might be a 35-100mm f/2.8 mk2 or the 50-200mm f/2.8-4.0 Lecia lens in my future if I can afford it.

I have the 12-35 2.8 with the ver 1.2, which I guess will get a firmware update later this year, but I'd like a longer lens too. For $200 more it sounds like it will be a nice improvement and along with the upgrade from the Gh3 to GH5. Thanks

Starting at 2:50 he is talking about the new 12-60 2.8-4 lens which he says has a micro controlled aperture.

But wouldn't the new 12-35mm f/2.8 II lens have this micro controlled aperture ? ( same with the new 35-100mm f/2.8 II lens )

Probably, I can't really tell by reading the overviews (or missed it) and he was only talking about the 12-60 lens. He did say the firmware update would not change it on the old model. I'm more interested in the longer lens. So hopefully it gets all of the upgrades.

I just watched the interview, the optical formula is the same. Changes are: freeze proof, better seals, black color, stepless aperture, more quiet (not that I've ever noticed noise), native support for IS-2.
