The Life Aquatic

Re: The Life Aquatic

Since we all putting it in order....Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic, Rushmore, and then (IMO) a distance 4th with Bottle Rockey (a good first effort but doesn't stand up as well to his senior work).

Guess I will do one of these too...

***************Spoiler Aheard***************

The thing that really took me out of Aquatic was the original encounter with the pirates and the shootout on the boat. The violence made it too real for the surreal atmosphere. At least up until the intern gets the machete ;D...then it goes back to surreal.

Re: The Life Aquatic

spolier...

Ha..yeah the pirate scene was pretty unexpected, butI actually liked it. It really picked up the pace of the film as it was pretty slow throughout.

Re: The Life Aquatic

I agree, the pirate scene focused the plot when it really needed it. You've gotta admit, Bill Murray wildly firing that gun was funny. Also the burial at sea scene with the dead pirate was hilarious. It also underscored the point that Bill Murray's character was deeply flawed and consequently endangered the whole crew. I was sorry to see the sunbathing intern leave, though. :'(

Re: The Life Aquatic

Yeah - what's up with that? That was the whole reason I went to see that movie!

(just kidding).

I thought the film could have been half-hour shorter and it would have been great. What's with all those up-and-coming filmmakers trying to fill 120 minutes?

I really enjoyed Bill Murray's dryness. Thought it was a pretty good parody not just on Custeau, but on certain 'documentary' film making style, as well (Now, let's do a reverse shot of me accidentally stumbling on this... Crocodile Hunter?)

Not a great film, but good enough to get some entertainment for a Sunday night.
