The Letus Ultimate -- Experience Thread

pigs of the setup taken and will be posted as soon as I get a chance. Last day on shoot two. I have some of the high resolution beach footage as well. I'll post a high resolution untouched when I post rig pictures.

Side note: The Redrock mattebox really rocks hard and looks purdy with everything else. Its not my unit, just a loaner.

You can order it but theres a two month wait for delivery. Reservation holders get priority. Luckily im a reservation holder :-D

Sure. However I can't stress enough that its target consumer is the PL crowd. I have some lenses borrowed that we considered some of the sharpest nikons available that Ill put to use. I might be able to get some stills today. Still on location though.

At 25 G for a set of used PL's and going up (dollar woes), I think you'll still have more Nikon and ZF users for the Ultimate at what I think at 4500 is acceptable (not great).

I honestly think there will be more Ultimates in the hands of rental houses but that remains to be seen.

And who knows, you guys... Maybe it won't be 4500? Its certainly worth that but its not out yet and not so set in stone tip that date. Who knows what they're thinking I'd toyinf around with?

Also, I'm out eating after doing some travelling around town. Gimme some time on grabs and rig pictures.

ok, but don't let it take u a week like with the first grabs :)

I also think that places like indie rentals will get a few of these...

:B Being out working and having other things to deal with detracts from the time I have to do such things.

First up's the rig pics. There are two separate setups going on here, one is the Zacuto Z-Riser Snorkel down setup that I finally got a "real" chance to play with and the second is the one I purchased: The Redrock Riser. Needless to say that I liked the Redrock Riser piece better since I purchased that and ended up buying a Speed Crank and a few other tid bits. So, here are the pics. Note: all pictures (or most) feature the Redrock mattebox as well.

Redrock Riser and Baseplate: I think the main thing to note here is that the RR baseplate and riser are very VERY solid pieces. Unlike the Cavision which consists of just posts (I used this for a while and it worked for what it was) which aren't that solid, the RR riser is a BLOCK of material that lifts the unit about two n'a half inches or so. I like this MUCH better and I don't have to worry about the extra hanging riser portion just to fit a mattebox on the unit.

I noticed with the "hanging" snorkel that you'll have some issues working with various tripods. For anyone that owns their own that's probably fine as you won't be using more than one, I tend to hop around. For instance, the Zacuto Riser solution presented an issue with the O'Connor head shown in the pictures. Had to adjust it and because of that the rig became rather front heavy. The Redrock allows me the option of adjusting the weight appropriately.

Your killing me with that grabbs Kholi.
No I cant´s sleep till I found a way to afford a 200A and that adapter.

Yeah, make my day!

Frank

P.S. Don´t you dare to post footage.

LoL Frank.

I really am not a fan of shooting with Nikons anymore. Another user here has a set of Zeiss C/Y lenses, I think I want to go that way myself and use T2.1's when I can!

The BIG thing is 170 + NanoFlash, though. I say wait for that combination before you upgrade. The 200A's image is just a precursor of things to come. Can't WAIT.

Zeiss rules!
Thou it´s a totaly different beast, have you seen what magic even 40 years old medium format Zeiss lenses and a LEX do in my Timefest entry?
(pages 3 and 5)

Frank
