The Letus Ultimate -- Experience Thread

I'm gonna change the title of this thread to
"The Ultimate Tease"
if I don' see no footage or grabs soon :D

LOL Trust me, I feel like I'm bein' a tease but I don't want to post anything sub-par right now. I was hoping this Anamorphic lens worked as it was supposed to but now I have to hunt down some Hawk's instead.

Regardless, no trees or bushes for me. I'm setting up a controlled lighting example from the 200A + Ultimate, not really testing it as I know I love it to death already, but there are some requests for 200A footage already so I'll knock out two birds with one stone.

Sorry guys! Soon.

Massive REP Points to: Luis Sinibaldi (Siniarch), Matt Garret (Matty_G) and Geoff Reisner (Geoff R.) for coming out to help me on this shoot.

Fine fine... stop twisting my arm...

50mm T2.1

24mm T2.1
1210897226.jpg

85mm T2.1 - Grainless Skies oh no! And just about clipped. CineD is great.

50mm T2.1 And more Grainless Skies -- No Ground Glass showing here.

Note: The entire time the Camera was in the range of 3.4 - 6.8 and the Lenses were always dropping down to about 4 - 5.6 themselves. The beach shots were about F8 on the taking lens and still no ground glass grain. The shot of the boy drinking the green stuff is wide open to achieve the most shallow DOF possible.

Kholi, thanks man... I guess you did have to take your time. Yet you knew all along that it would be worth it.

Film
other than for the range it sure look as sharp and uniform as decent to good stock

I would definitely love some more Range, man. That's why the RED rocks so hard. At the price point you get so much out of it, that sky would've been a bit better but there's only so much you can control, so.

Being able to use CineD is basically being able to Maximize the HVX200's potential. There's great detail in the shadows, nothing too harsh or coarse, I like the HVX so much more now.

I'm really looking forward to the 170 + nanoFlash combination. It should break the final barrier for Panasonic's Sub HPX500 line-up, adding more detail and subtracting more digital noise from the image.

I gotta say the Ultimate is sick. My rail/rod setup needs to change badly because Cavision just doesn't cut it anymore, the adapter itself is wicked. Being able to shoot against skies without having to worry about a whirling ground glass or dancing grain is immediately relaxing. It's freeing up a lot of limitations (light included) that we all have to deal with when using these Frankenstein contraptions.

include a GOOD rail system (non of this dinky skinny stuff with no solid base and absurd camera height) and chop $500 off the cost and its golden.

I'd pay $4000 for a complete system. Actually i'll replace all my other systems for that cost.

I think the price point of 4500 is right on the money. The unit offers more functionality than any adapter in it's class (P+S Tech, MovieTube) and beats the pants off them in every single area; that includes price point.

If the adapter hit the 3999.99 mark then even better, but 4500 is on the money.

Edit: Don't quote me on this, but, I also think the 4500 includes a PL Mount which is normally 360.00.

Consider that as well. It's directly geared toward the P+S Market, as the P+S is synonymous with PL mount.

Just a few more. Love the sharpness that the ultimate brings to the table. Of course combined with some sharp glass, but, it's pretty much shot for shot with the naked camera footage mixed in. :D

Again, straight from camera with no contrast, color, anything adjusted.

Kholi,
Exactly what are the advantages of the Ultimate over say an SGPro (to compare it to another spinner) . If you don't have experience with that one than say just compare it to a Letus Extreme. Is it mainly sharpness and clarity from a better diffuser?
Sorry if this seems redundant.
I envy you getting a chance to play with it.

To be honest it outclasses the SG, M2, Extreme and anything else. So comparing it to that is kinda off but for the sake of doing so I say that the advantage of the Ultimate over the SGpro and M2 is freedom. I love the SGPro and M2 image when treated properly, used correctly. But, with both of those adapters there are situations to avoid. Using either of those on this shoot would've rendered me a bit impaired, avoiding skies was not an option and I really wanted plenty of sky in shots.

Light loss for a shoot like this they all would work, having the Ultimate coming in at .5 stops still lowers the bar of limitations, consider that it's also spinning like the other two and the Bokeh is great.

The sharpness is another plus, you can see in that 24mm that it's edge to edge and rightfully so. I didn't grab the 16mm since the shoot never called for that wide of a shot, but regardless it definitely is edge sharp. So, that's another advantage over the rest of the pack.

I won't go into the features since it was an image to image question, I say image to image that it does win out the other adapters for me. It's got high marks in every category and still brings it home with half a stop of light in mind.

Wow, look at the tiles on the first blender picture... so much detail!

And that supplement bucket... it is truly crazy sharp... and so even

Have you noticed any hot spotting toward the middle? The 24mm shot appears to be hotter toward the middle but could just be the sun hitting the ground a certain way.

If the Ultimate does indeed include a PL mount in that price tag I think they are looking pretty good. My only hesitation is that it is still well over twice the cost of an SG. IMO Shoot35 could spend a few hundred bucks and create a very stellar adapter with just a few improvements. The SG already has great build quality and a great looking image. Improve the flip (resulting in better light loss), give X/Y, and a variable speed control and you've got a $2000 SG that can really compete. I also love how fast the unit installs on the rod system. No other adapter can be slid on and off that fast.

I guess I just need to see it in person. I tend to buy things very quickly when they are in front of me. Have they given a release date?

Yeah rig pics are needed! Even if your setup isn't final yet. I want to see what the one who scribbles uses.
